I started to fell in love with Arrested about halfway through the first season but I needed that show like crack by the start of the third season. The running jokes are so consistent and so well implemented, the funniest lines were the most subtle ones that implied some obscure reference to a single gag somewhere in the first season.

The show is genius. They foreshadow stuff that happens in the 3rd season in some of the very early episodes of season 1. Everything is so well planned out.

I cant wait for the character by character episodes of season 4 to his netlfix, and then movie time!

I actually gave it go when it was airing, as I was a fan of David Cross from Mr. Show, and Jeffery Tambor from Larry Sanders, and had the same problem.

I am almost caught up on Dexter and am trying to decide what series to watch next. My choices are Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and Walking Dead. Which would you all say is best?

When Henry Winkler literally jumped over the shark on the dock while they were retrieving Buster's hand I fucking lost it. I wonder if that was an explicit admission from the writers that the show was on its way out.

I would have a very hard time pitting Mad Men and Breaking Bad against each other. They're extremely different from each other, but they are both SO FUCKING GOOD.

Madmen has more sex, Breaking bad has more violence. Neither are too graphic in either department, they're both fairly cerebral. I'd also highly recommend Son Of Anarchy if you haven't seen it, which is not only a great show but has lots of boobs and violence (as much as you can get on a non-premium channel show anyway)!

I have seen a few episodes of Sons of Anarchy, my daughter is really into it and made me record it for her, but not until the later seasons, I could see going back and watching it though, I watched the final episode of the last season and it was pretty good, it would have been better if I knew what the fuck was going on.

OK, I think I am going with breaking bad, then mad men.

    Thanks guys!

Never really thought of it that way, but yeah, totally. SOA is under-appreciated critically I think, but it's extremely well done, and definitely worth going back and watching from the beginning. it's a little bit of a soap opera for men, but it's so well done and the acting is so strong that it's easy to get past. they have legitimately very good cinematic action sequences in it too.

    Breaking Bad
    Walking Dead
    Mad Men

Note that all three are considerably better than most seasons of Dexter, so any order is going to be fun. You should probably do Walking Dead first since it's the shortest and you could blow through the episodes very quickly... but Breaking Bad is amazing. Mad Men has great moments but struggles with consistency (as does Walking Dead).

Walking Dead is on a non pay channel right? that might not be a bad idea, then we can watch it in real time with everyone else. I just got through with season 4 of Dexter and I hate that I knew what happened at the end of the season before it happened (thanks internet). Nick didn't know though so I was able to enjoy his surprise.

Chuck Klosterman wrote this little piece last year on why he favors Breaking Bad to Mad Men (as well as the two crown jewels of HBO's programming). I largely agree with what he gets at here.

Both series, by the way, make Dexter look like a fucking cartoon.

I do have some interest in watching this, but I doubt I could get Nick to agree. I have enough shows on my DVR that he won't sit through as it is. Someday I will have an internet connection in my house and can watch netflix on my wii. At that point I will probably watch it along with The Tudors & Camelot.
