Such a joy. The look, feel and sound of it is all kinda familiar, because it's all filtered down through so much pop culture, but at the same time when you actually watch the thing, it still feels keen as a blade. Everything is very black and white and stiff, but that just makes everything that little bit more eerie and off kilter. You'd think the formal old timey language and staging would be offputting, but it just gives everything a kind of Shakespeary, Biblical portent.
It's neat. It's really neat.
Also, Rod Serling could describe the living shit out of things.
"Ethel, I have sold my soul to a man named Cadwallader in exchange for immortality. More simply than that I could not put it."
"...
I'll call a doctor."
So wait. You've never actually sat down and watched Twilight Zone before? Ireland's more fucked up than I realized.
It's a great show but man are there some clunkers amongst all the episodes. Some times even the good ones are like "Oh ho ho, what a deliciously ironic twist! Really showed me what's what about human folly!"
Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents were both excellent shows. I've seen many episodes from both shows, but I get the 2 confused a lot.
I should sit down and watch them all back to back too sometime.

Does anyone else here watch Parenthood? I'm only on season 1 but I am way, way into it.
5/25-5/27: MOVEMENT DETROIT
6/6: The Field @ The Independent
6/26: Colin Stetson @ The Chapel
I haven't seen it. I will watch that movie anytime it's on, so I should try it. I just assumed it would be syrupy crap.
Fun fact: They did a Parenthood TV show 20 years ago right after the movie came out, and Leonardo DiCaprio played the part that Joaquin Phoenix played in the movie.
Cara, I watch the occasional episode of Parenthood. I get totally sucked in. I should probably DVR it.
Though I admit I will never be able to see Lauren Graham as anyone but Lorelai Gilmore. It's like Lorelai in a parallel universe where she has non-Rory kids.
Marc - I think it is very, very, very loosely based on the Steve Martin film. It's also set in Berkeley so that warms my heart.
Becca - I am sort of the same with Lauren Graham, though she is still playing a "bad" girl in this series. I didn't realize that she replaced Maura Tierney, who left the show to get cancer treatment.

I remember that, and I can't imagine her in the role. It wouldn't be the same at all. Lauren Graham is just right.
I didn't think it was possible to hate a character played by John Corbett, but I kinda hate his character.
finally got netflix about 2 weeks ago.... and discovered 'Heroes'. Wow...!!! Such a great show, already finished season 2 and started 3 last night. Kinda bummed 'cause I know there isn't too much more to go.
Also starting 'Game of Thrones' tonight, as my boss wont leave me alone about it.

I thought Season 2 was where it went to shit but maybe that's just me
watching last Friday's Fringe right now. fucking psyched that Jarred Harris is back, such a great actor.
We actually have a pretty good thread on here for Twilight Zone. EDIT: That thread is a spoiler alert zone. You should watch them all before you go in there.
In the States, on Sci-Fi, they usually show Twilight Zone all day long on, I believe, Thanksgiving Day and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day. I usually tune in for a few of them, and there have definitely been years where I sat in front of the TV for most of the day. They would always just show the black and white ones, but last year they also showed the shitty eighties ones, which I never even knew existed.
Season 1 of Heroes was amazing!
Season 2 is definitely where it all went to shit.
Rob Schneider got his own show? The end is nigh.

has anyone checked out the new handy-cam / lost type thriller on ABC called The River? here's a quick synopsis taken from wikipedia
"The River" follows the story of wildlife expert and TV personality Emmet Cole. Emmet set course around the world with his wife, Tess, and son, Lincoln, while filming what would become one of the most popular shows in television. After he goes missing deep in the Amazon, his family, friends and crew set out on a mysterious and deadly journey to find him. Famed explorer Dr. Emmet Cole (Bruce Greenwood) went looking for magic deep in the uncharted Amazon and never returned. The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be discovered. To the millions of kids who grew up watching his nature show, Dr. Cole was a hero. To his own son, Lincoln (Joe Anderson), he was more of an enigma. Now, six months after he vanished, Lincoln is finally ready to bury the past when Dr. Cole's emergency beacon suddenly goes off.
here's a clip, definitely worth watching on HD, full screen
Portlandia seems like a show I'd really like, and I'm tempted to give it a shot, but I completely and utterly despise Fred Armisen in every way possible. Is he bearable in it? Or does he try to be funny with little to no result?
5/30 - John Talabot - Echoplex (?)
6/02 - Bjork - Palladium
6/07-08 - Jubilee Fest
6/11 - Bjork - Hollywood Bowl
6/14 - Dandy Warhols - Wiltern (?)

his range of characters is pretty impressive, he doesn't come across as trying to hard. i still wish it wasn't purely sketch based...well with an "overall story arc", everything is based in portland.
he co-star comes off as sometimes hot and sometimes blah. not sure why i added that comment
