I don't watch a lot of TV these days outside of stuff like the Discovery Channel, but a friend had me watch the animated show Ugly Americans the other day and I kind of like what it's got going on.

If you are a fan of Mr. Show, and haven't watched the series with the commentaries on, I highly recommend it. Last year i rewatched all 4 seasons with the commentaries and was fucking howling the entire time. So funny.

Anybody watching Persons Unknown on NBC? I was drawn to it because Christopher McQuarrie(who wrote The Usual Suspects) is one of the writers.

It is extremely cheesy and mildly entertaining. Monday night summer TV at it's best.

Peep Show is consistently brilliant, and I can't recommend Garth Marenghi's Darkplace enough. If you like Inbetweeners, check out Misfits too, which gets bonus points for using it's whole first season run to build up to a really great use of a Blur song.

Does anyone watch Merlin? Is it just me or is there a lot of gay chemistry between Merlin and Arthur in that show? It's almost too much. The guy who plays Merlin has absolutely no chemistry with all the female leads and loads of chemistry with Arthur. I am really enjoying this show though -- it's nice to see a really good fantasy series on TV that's not sci-fi.

Apparently, they're going to try adapting Global Frequency for TV again, which I'm rather curious about.

Global Frequency is a thoroughly enjoyable comic about an international independent network of variously talented sleeper agents, who are handpicked and activated as threats arise. Kinda like a cooler Thunderbirds, really, except they deal with notably more horrifying government secrets.

What makes it interesting is that it's kind of ready-made for TV - only Miranda Zero and her operator are constants from one story to the next, since the sleeper agents only step up as their particular talents as required. On the one hand, it loses a little in that there's no continuity to keep you tuned, but on the other hand the reader never knows if the hero of the hour is going to get the job done, or even survive. An actually pretty good pilot was made before, featuring Michelle Forbes as Zero, but it didn't quite spark, and it wasn't picked up.

I'd love to see the Big Wheel story adapted, but man, there is absolutely no way they'd ever do that villain justice on TV.

They had previously tried to show me an episode of it, and I found the dad Phil way too annoying, like trying to be a less subtle Michael Scott. But I started watching it again Friday night and ended up staying in all weekend and watching the entire season. LOVED it. It's like Arrested Development, just not as good. AD-lite. But still much better than most of the other shit out there. And I ended up liking the dad. He's more an older, dumber Seth Cohen (The OC) than Michael Scott. Can't wait for season 2.
