    Default A Place To Bury Strangers - Spaceland - June 26 '10

Anyone going? I was bummed to have missed them when they played Coachella (think they were playing during McCartney) and I haven't had an opportunity to catch them since. I absolutely love their recorded work, but from what I read, the live shows leave an impression on one's eardrums. I'm seeing Goldfrapp at the Bowl the next day and I want to be able to hear Alison Goldfrapp's ethereal vocals without any ringing in my ears. Do you think I'd be okay with earplugs standing in the back for APTBS or will I be regretting it the next day?

You'll regret it some. Spaceland is tiny, so being in the back won't make much of a difference. But their live performances are head and shoulders above their recorded material. I'll be there.

i've seen them in a small room and it was loud to the point of feeling it hit your face and squeeze through your head. Definitely back of the room by the mixing board with earplugs.

I find it remarkable that a band that is as good live as they are are so unpopular. I mean, Spaceland holds what, 200 people? And they still haven't sold it out?

I bought those the last time I saw them play. The earplugs inside were a little crushed and didn't fully expand back to earplug shape, so it might be wise to grab a pair at a drugstore or something on your way there just in case. It's a good $2 souvenir, though. I love the box.

They're playing at The Doug Fir here tonight but I don't think I'm going to be able to make it. I'm bummed.

WHat's the best place to buy earplugs? A drugs tore, like can I find them at Rite Aid and CVS and stuff? Shockingly I've never used headphones before.

I did have to rip up and stuff tissues into my ears during Grizzley Bear at Coach though.

Any drugstore should be fine for cheapie ones. You could probably even find them at a bodega without looking too hard.

I'm really bad at remembering to buy or use them. I know Corinna has some higher-end ones that she likes quite a bit, but I don't remember the brand.

I saw APTBS in a small venue in Vancouver, and you didnt really need ear plugs for it.... they dont even come close to as loud as MBV are... I wish i could see this show....

It depends on how good the soundsystem is. They were deafening last time I saw them in SF. They were quite loud at Coachella. They were loud, but ear plugs weren't close to necessary at the wine bar the other night.

I put earplugs in at their Echoplex show last year, and couldn't hear shit so I took them out and it wasn't painfully loud at all. And yeah, I bought them from the bar in the back. That was smart of them. Although, I think they might do that for every show.

the best thing is buy a pair of Etymonic ER20s for $10-15 from somewhere like Guitar Center and just take them to every show. They're more for sound reduction than just muffling the noise, so you can still clearly hear the music.

I have a guitar center down the street from work. i was looking for an answer just like that. Considering that my job is in a recording studio, i really should start taking better care of my ears ion general.

They were pretty loud last time they played at Spaceland, but I was OK even right by the stage. (Holy Fuck may have been louder.)

At the Troubadour they were not too loud.

I haven't found earplugs that block out the different levels equally. They seem to block out the higher pitched sounds, so I can't hear the interesting parts, just the bass. Maybe I will check out Guitar Center.

They have been for the past couple of years. But that may mean its time to take a break.

I'm so excited for this show. Got to see them at the Casbah on their last tour, but I was really sick and couldn't enjoy it properly. Looking forward to seeing them in another tiny awesome venue. I'll be coming up from SD with one of my friends.

I was suposed to go to APTBS last night in Vancouver... but I got off work late and wasn't able to make it. I was kinda bummed, but at least I have seen them 3 (or maybe 4) times before. They seem to play Vancouver every 6 months or so. It just seemed weird missing the band who made my favorite album of 2009.
