    Default Mortal Kombat re-imagined

So apparently this was shot as sort of proposal/pilot/test for a potential movie.

It's kind of awesome in its own right, but it ignores the MK mythology and everyone exists in our world. There is no Nether-realm or whatever.
And its pretty gory for what it is too.

Features Michael Jai White as Jaxx and Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, and other characters.

"is saying this is a test shoot that was done for Warner Brothers to get funding for a full blown hard 'R' MK movie." They confirm it was Kevin Tancharoen who directed it, along with revealing most of the rest of the cast. This is more likely something the director pitched to Warner Bros himself along with some industry backers. If Warner Bros. wanted it made they wouldn't have leaked it especially if it differs much from the massive marketing plan that is about to launch for Mortal Kombat 9 next week. It's very likely it is a rejected pitch that the people behind it wanted to get out to drum up some support for their vision of a Mortal Kombat remake.

Michael Jai White is severely underrated and he would play a great Jaxx. Jeri ryan as Sonya is great too. Love the idea of a hard R MK movie but...

MK without the supernatural element? Baraka looks silly too.

damn, wonder how much this cost to make

I intentionally didn't do that because of that. Thankfully there aren't real pictures in the wiki entry!

Jesus, that was a fucking fantastic clip.

Too fucking bad it would never get made, not in a million years.

Part of me would hate to actually have access to scripts, to see the shit that gets thrown out by the fucking disneyfied morons at most of the movie companies....

I wouldn't be surprised if it does get made. People like the video and it's getting attention. The script doesn't have to be good to be accepted. It just needs to be able to make money. If enough people like this clip, it will probably have promise to make some money.

The only bad part might be throwing too many characters into the movie and creating one hot mess (see MK: Annihilation).

The nerd in me was constantly raging about how blatantly they ignored the true world of Mortal Kombat but it didn't stop me from thinking it's awesome as fuck.

Edit- I will actually give them credit for getting a bunch of very small and strange facts right about the characters although they approached the storyline so differently.

The difference in storyline may be what I liked most about it. If they kept the same story format, I think it would just continue on like the game series, as mentioned below. I think the actual story line would give them more room to fuck it up with cartoonish bullshit.

    NEW MORTAL COMBAT GAME!

    http://kotaku.com/5560010/the-new-mo...pure-brutality

The trailer for the new Mortal Kombat game shows a true return to form, with 2D battles, tag-team fighting, gory inside-look combos, and fatalities so cruel you'll be crossing your legs with sympathy pains.

This is the Mortal Kombat fans have been craving. No complicated 3D camera. No toned-down violence to cater to the teen crowd. Just 1-on-1 fighting with the sort of brutal violence that drew fans to the series in the first place.

I especially like the inside-look combo that occurs towards the end of the trailer, peeling back layers of flesh and muscle to show the impact of hits directly on the bones. It's nasty and satisfying at the same time.

We'll just try not to think about the fact that Kung Lao is now wearing a hat covered in Sub-Zero's testicle blood.

Baraka looks lame but i'm loving how excessively graphic everything else is. i want it.

will an R-rated MK have room for the MK theme song? *untz untz untz*
