I'm seeing them at the Che in San Diego on Sunday and I haven't been so excited about seeing a band I wasn't very familiar with like this in a while.

Let's just make this the Screaming Females 2010 thread.

They're going to wipe that smile right off your face. Or put it right on your face. One or the other. When I saw them back in September, I'd never even heard of them and had just gone to the show because it was Signals first show. They were so incredibly good live.

So how was it?

I'm curious what the turnout is like for their tour here. Kinda worried nobody is going to be showing up for the show tonight in boring San Diego... still super excited though!

No, I was saying that oh, yeah, this was great stuff.

We got a set of almost 40 minutes. It was mostly new songs - six or seven out of nine or ten - but this was no issue whatsoever because they were fantastic. I loved the guitar tone, bright and beautiful. My favorite was either the first one (abbreviated as "I Do" on the setlist) or "Dino" ("something something all these dinosaurs, they want to rule the world.")

We also got "Buried In the Nude," "Boyfriend" (to close) and they even fulfilled a request for "I Believe In Evil."


Father's Day were fun and bizarre, as is the norm for Ryan's bands/projects (Hi My Name Is Ryan, Uncle Sku's Clubhouse, the Cullens) and hit on the same band themes - simple music, repetitive lyrics, audience participation.

The Chandails played about 25 minutes and that was one of the best sets I've seen from them. The sound was clear and the interplay and rounding with the guitars was great as always.

The Pods opened and gave a powerful set. I do like the twin guitar, two different vocalists set up. Though the vocals were a bit tough to here until Marissa (of Screaming Females) swung one of the speakers out to face the crowd. At any rate I need to see them more.

So apparently this is on the first album, Baby Teeth which I don't know or have and could've picked up at the show but instead I got the other two on vinyl.

So yeah, nobody showed up for their Monday night show in San Diego like I was worried about. It was a crowd of maybe 30, or more towards 40, and a lot of arms crossed. Oh well. I'm not sure if the band's enthusiasm was affected but they still put on a really groovy set.

It was a lot jammier than I would have expected, but perhaps their setlist was heavy on the stoner jams that night. It was sure awesome that way, though, just watching Marissa go off on her solos. I took my friends that had never heard of the band and they were really glad. I think her guitar shredding is what sold em most.

They opened with "Starving Dog," and I think they also played "Skull," "Lights Out," "Theme Song," "Sour Grapes" and a bunch of songs I didn't know. You're lucky to have caught "Boyfriend," I'm sure that was a blast!

I hung out with their bass player for a while, he's a really silly dude.

Screaming Females are coming back to the Trunk Space. They are playing Monday, September 6th (after playing FYF Fest.)

Sadly I will be out of town.

But y'all have to go. That show was so fucking good.
