I was really excited to see them, it was just too bad it was in the middle of the afternoon. They went on around 4 pm I think. There wasn't a huge crowd for them, and they didn't get to have any sort of a light show. But they played most of Absolution, which I was obsessed with at the time, so it was a great singalong set.
Edit: I saw someone earlier mention the confetti canons - I forgot they also threw big beach balls into the crowd with eye balls on them. I got one at the end and wanted to keep it forever but I think I lost it by the end of the weekend.
I didn't know Black Star's songs that well, but I really enjoyed their set. If I remember correctly, it was near the very end of the night, even after the headliner that year? I was up towards the front and there was a very dedicated group of fans eating that shit up all around me. It felt like a very intimate performance because it didn't feel like a lot of people were there for it, but I could be wrong.
2008 for sure.
2007 was great cause I believe that was the first time I had seen them and didn't know what to expect. A lot of people were slowly trickling into the Sahara throughout their set. I remember being pleasantly surprised that it was a full live band playing.
2008 was just ridiculous. Everyone knew who they were by then, and the tent was PACKED. I was standing by the back for some fresh air, and everyone was in such a groove. People were climbing up the sides of the Sahara tent and hanging by the rafters dancing. It was packed and hot and sweaty and perfect. I still don't think it was night time out. Maybe late afternoon/early evening. And I saw dreadlocks boy freaking out in there as well. I always associate him with that set. Definitely one of my favorite Hot Chip sets ever.
2010 was definitely good, but was one of my least favorite times seeing them. Not to say they were bad, I've just seen them a lot better. It was fun seeing them on the Outdoor stage tho because it seemed much grander.
Hot Chip played in the Mojave in 2007. That was a great set. I really enjoyed their 2010 set too. The crowd kinda sucked though... you could tell a lot of them were waiting for MGMT.

I would never want to belong to any club that would have someone like me for a member...
not great, but the reason I went to coachella for the first time! Liams voice was shoddy, and they were touring behind SOTSOG which was a really weak album. Plus a short set of prob 1hr 20 min.... Not a lot of time for cuts off their debut or b-sides from the same era. Heres the set list apparently:

How was Deerhunter last year? did they play a good amount of songs from their latest album?
i thought the set was okay. they played middle of the day at the outdoor, and it was fucking hot. they worked in a couple of songs from the latest album... i think helicopter and revival.
"never stops" was fantastic. such a simple song, but so perfect.
what else? i will say that bradford showed the most personality out of everyone i saw that weekend.

Was Paul Oakenfold good in 2001? I was there but I barely remember his set. I just remember being so tightly packed it was hard to breathe. Janes Addiction took forever to come out and Weezer got light sticks thrown at them

Yeah, we were walking by and I was reeled in by the costumes for only one song. It happened to be the last song, "Punkrocker", of course. Which would have been cool, but a lady (Aimee Echo) was taking over for Iggy's vocals, and it was alright, but we kept on walking before the song was over.
"BUT IT'S CALLED CALL AND OATES YOU NO FUN IDIOT"- Drinkey, standing up for Rich Girls everywhere

Eh Wasn't that great. It was windy up there on the Main Stage so he was trainwrecking even more than usual (DJs on the main stage with vinyl seemed to have problems, even Mixmaster Mike with Beastie Boys in 2003), but he busted out a trance anthems of course which were of the '00-'01 era.
Was 4HERO or LUKE VIBERT good in 1999?
