I have gotten to the point at my job that even if I browse the board/reddit for half the day I am still at least twice as efficient as my back shift.

Sorry, but we are working without a contract. We have to keep up the pressure to get this done. It's kind of fun being insubordinate anyway.

I heard that management told a couple people to stop, but my union rep (who sits near me) was saying unless management tells us individually or sends out an email for all of us, we should continue to click as planned. I know this is silly, but I much prefer non-violent subordinate acts than violent ones, like say what happened in South African platinum mines.

No, it's not quite that bad. I don't have a dangerous job either, but the techs who climb telephone poles and whatnot, THAT is dangerous. (again, I work for the local phone company)

I was hoping to get a little encouragement here since democrats have traditionally supported union workers in the past, but you all are kind of being dicks.

I was union for a few years at UPS.

I was ready to turn my back on those low lifes and get promoted to mgmt in a heartbeat. Yes, the union wiped my ass for the few years I was a part of it, but my god 95% of my "brethren" were horrible examples of what it means to be a honest hard working citizen.
It was a blessing I had a job opportunity open up in a completely different field of work right when I finished my last interview for promotion. Had I been promoted out of the union...I probably would have hated the union even more.

My employer wants to move us to their shitty health care plan (with their non-bargained-for employees), and they want to create a new job title for most of the non-sales/non-customer-facing jobs which will pay one third of our current salary. That means I will not want to move to another job title because I would be paid one third of what I get now, and anyone who comes into my department gets paid that shitty pay for doing that same work I do. And I think they are trying to move the retirees to that health plan which gives the retirees a set amount for health care and then tops out at a certain amount. I am not clear on the details because my union and my employer are not being specific.

Also, that new job title is what we get if the company agrees to stop off-shoring our work to the Phillipines.

Yes, I have been going online and sending out resumes every Friday morning. I am also going to send one to my friend who might have a position at her office. I need an escape route, these guys are just going to keep adding more to my plate till I lose my mind.

Any office job, I have done all aspects of accounting, admin assistant, contract admin, project coordinator, HR, etc. within the construction world. I would love to get out of construction but unfortunatly that is where all of my experience is. I am only looking at larger companies though, I am over the small mom and pop construction companies. They expect you to do everything but only pay you for a portion of it. The problem is they pay me just enough that it's hard to find a position making the same as what I make to start and I can't afford a pay cut. So I stay in hopes something will eventually fall in my lap.

These tactics worked last bargaining cycle in '08. The problem is we are with a new company with new management now, and they are not used to bargaining with huge unions for contracts. They are very stubborn.

Really? Man, I want nothing more than to move to CA. I just don't think I am ready yet. My kids aren't moving out for a month. BOO!
