Ron I just read yesterday afternoon's exchange. I understand you sent Burning Man tickets to a person in New York City with an expectation of getting paid after. I would like to ask a few followup questions if I may.

    1. Did you choose to do it this way, or did you just forget to ask for payment before you dropped the tickets in the mail?

    2. If you chose to do it this way -- why? I mean, seriously, no judgment here, it's just that I seriously don't understand and I hate it when I don't understand something. What were your motives? What were you hoping to accomplish by structuring the deal this way? Was it really just a "trust experiment" or did you have something else in mind?

    3. Is the takehome pay of a retired government employee so substantial that you can afford to blow $800 on experiments?

    4. Or are you just bullshitting us and having a good troll laugh at our expense?

I don't understand what "Important things in your life" you expect to learn from this. At best, you learn that one person in New York is reliable enough to send you money after receiving tickets, and that doesn't really say anything about people in general, but rather about the one person you mailed the tickets to. Are you trying to figure out if this guy would be a good addition to your underground drug distribution ring? A dependable, honest middleman for ticket brokership?

What is it you're going to learn?

I'm near suicidal because I can't fucking keep enough money together to replace things I need and pay bills and save up to escape my hellish life, and "$800 is a just a drop in life." Go fuck yourself. I don't remember the last time I saw $800 all at once.

I don't want tickets. I want a working cell phone and my speeding ticket paid off and a computer that doesn't require being tied together with a shoestring to retain power and my own car and my own place and etc. I've accepted that I don't deserve fun like most people I know.

Have you considered a more steady source of employment than cab driving? I know retail and food service blow but you will get the hours and you won't be paying for an equipment lease for the shifts.

I have no idea what to do. Thinking about doing the job hunting thing again makes me feel like hyperventilating. I don't have a car and public transportation here is worthless. With the cab company, it's within walking distance and I can work at nights when I have my mom's car. Any job I can imagine getting would be minimum wage and I'd probably make just as much or less as I would driving after taxes, and especially once collection agencies catch up to me and start garnishing 15% of my wages. Not to mention that I'm just a mental wreck and can't really deal with people. The cab thing is really low stress when it comes to customer service (most of the time). I can't go back to a Whole Foods type environment where I have to actively engage with every customer on in an upbeat manner. It's exhausting and makes me have panic attacks.

I'm derailing this thread, though, so let's not make this about my self-defeatism.

"$800 is just a drop," is fucking laughable to a LARGE MAJORITY of US citizens. Jesus. My mom was telling me the other day that she's happy she has her job because some of her colleagues have, gasp, had to settle for positions that only pay $25-35 an hour and she couldn't even fathom living off of that. I looked at her in shock. She owns her home, her car, has no credit cards, and she can't imagine continuing to life her life on that kind of money? She's not even a lavishly expensive person, I mean she gardens and that's about it. I would be happy as a fucking clam if I had that kind of income and you know, didn't have to pay rent. People are cluelessly disconnected with other people's reality.

I suspect available technology is pretty irrelevant if your comprehension is already this low. Patrick's job requires him to be on call and reachable wherever he is. Not everybody's experience mirrors yours, and your recreational experience of technology doesn't automatically extrapolate to everybody else's need.

If you do the work to address the mental issues you will probably have a much easier time getting everything else together. Not guaranteed, but probably.

You've got 2 kids, though. My mom's a 60 year old woman whose hobbies are gardening, swimming at the gym, walking with her friends, and cooking. She goes out to eat like maybe twice a month. She's a fucking loon if she imagines that sustaining her current life on a $35/hr salary is impossible.

In todays world very few people have a landline, there are no payphones anywhere. Having a phone is a necessity, especially for work purposes, more so while looking for work.

Me too dude. Everyone always gets mad at me "you didn't answer your phone!"
Yeah bitch it's on my night stand next to the computer. I can get a cab home if I don't make it to the parking lot after the game. I'm not a baby. And then what happens is I don't go home but get dropped off at a bar and just by coincidence I see everyone eating breakfast in a restraunt and walk in and say " hey I made it" and everyone is like " how does he get away with this" that's why I get to be me .
