    Default Scotland & the UK

Scottish people voted today on whether we should leave the United Kingdom and become an independent country.
Counting has just begun, results are due in about 7 hours.

    Independence? no thanks. Better Together

I'd find it weird for the Union Flag to change, because technically it should if Scotland gained independence.

I was hoping to get your take on the referendum as you & Mrs. Dede are my only sheep in this haggis... Is it true they are extending the drinking hours tonight?

It would not necessarily change. This shows some options, but closes with:

According to some constitutional experts, because the current flag technically represents a union of crowns rather than nations, and the Queen would be likely to remain monarch of an independent Scotland, there would be no legal or constitutional reason to stop flying the current flag.

    Both of these brilliant!

Just got off the phone with a pal in Glasgow. He says it's close but it looks like the status quo will not change.

Can 24 hour drinking be extended?
It was a Commonwealth Games sport this summer.

The YouGov exit poll shows 54% No: 46% Yes. Fingers crossed.
Many areas are reporting 90% turn out of voters.

I skipped Nazareth and am not familiar with Alex Harvey. What should I listen to from The Sensational Alex Harvey Band?

This evening, I'll be seeing CHVRCHES perform. By the time they take the stage, we should have a pretty good idea of where the vote went. I wonder if they'll mention it.

Personally, I feel the Scots are better off in the UK and I hope the Brits recognize how close they've come to losing Scotland and start making some meaningful changes to reflect Scotland's views on affairs.
9/18 CHVRCHES @ the Fox Theatre
9/22 Tove Lo @ the Fillmore
9/27 Simian Mobile Disco @ The Mezzanine
10/5 The War On Drugs @ The Fillmore
10/21 Jessie Ware @ The Chapel
10/24 Little Dragon @ the Fox Theatre
10/24 Rfs Du Sol @ The Mezzanine
10/29 PHISH @ Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
    10/31 AlunaGeorge @ 1015 (?)
11/29 London Grammar @ the Fox Theatre

I hope he's right. I'm shitting it in case the nationalist flag wavers sweep us into economic oblivion just because they don't like the English.
I find the whole Yes campaign incredibly negative and economically reckless and irresponsible.

Might push us towards a move to SoCal mind you

First result. Clackmannanshire votes no. 54% to 46%. Exactly as the generic exit poll predicted.

That's entirely a coincidence, though. They've been talking to the same people over and over and it's Scotland-wide, having nothing to do with Clackmannashire or any other region.

I wasn't suggesting it was anything else. The YouGov poll was only 3000 punters across the regions.

Anyway I'm off to my kip. Its 2.50 am. 3 results of 32 are in. 'No' is 59% and indications are Edinburgh & Aberdeen are 60% No.
Bookies are offering 33/1 against Yes winning

I look forward to watching the knob-end in my street take down the 5 foot high 'Yes" poster in his garden with a wide as the Clyde smile on my coupon

    Congrats Dede!

Especially for living in a country where this decision is being made peacefully at a ballot box and not at the end of someone's gun...

    Phew ... panic over

A grave error would have been voting yes for a dream defined by hearts and hopes that was lacking any plan for success or roadmap for avoiding economic suicide and no opportunity to test it.
It had unfortunate similarities with the Ally's Tartan Army dream of winning the Argentina world cup in '78. No Thanks.
Thank fuck it wasn't voted through on a tidal wave of saltires and songs in George Square.
And while I'm at it, wealthy celebrities like Martin Compston, Andy Murray and Irvine Welsh, who are far far far away from the economic sharp end of Scotland's housing schemes, interest rates, dole queues, tax bills and small businesses can spare me the 'lets go for it' messages.

    Rant over
