    Default MGMT vs. Gorillaz

I fucking hate polls, so for the most part I kind of resent this, but it'll be an interesting experiment in Board Regulars vs. Lurkers. My hypothesis is that MGMT will win this poll, although I should preface all of this by stating that I don't believe they'll take an early lead even remotely. In the beginning the regulars will push Gorillaz far ahead, but then lurkers will swoop in and eventually cause an MGMT win.

Who are you more looking forward to seeing?

Gorillaz. Easily far more interesting. I want to see their stage show and see how their music translates live with the full audio/video experience.

I will watch MGMT and I loved their album but I got sick of it fast and left it alone for a long long time and never returned. I'm looking forward to the next MGMT album and to see if their live show improved because they were not very good the three times I saw them in 2008, Coachella was the best of the three shows I saw.

Or, people could hold off and swoop in with votes for Gorillaz near the end if they wanted to piss in your Cheerios.

I would also appreciate it if people didn't act like I'm voting for MGMT. I'm not. My contention is basically that lurkers have predictably terrible musical taste such as this instance.

I was talking more to SonOfHal. It should also be noted that I'm not going to consider the results on this remotely in for at least three weeks.

That doesn't mean I'm more excited to see them. As I've stated several times, there are some serious issues with MGMT live. But in that thread we were discussing my assertion that there is not a bad track on Oracular Spectacular. You brought up Gorillaz, who have numerous boring tracks on both albums.

Gorillaz albums are very hit and miss.... but I don't think MGMT is all that different in that regard.

I just don't get what we are supposed to vote for. The group as a whole? Their live shows? Who are we more pumped to see?

Edit: Guess I shouldn't skim Monk's posts if he is the OP

Lurkers aren't going to vote in your stupid poll, and if they do, they'll be swayed by the huge lead already taken by regulars. How many of the current 23 are lurkers btw? Looks like mostly regulars to me.

And we have a very intriguing sign that Randy's experiment might have something to it:

What exactly can you compare Gorillaz to? I agree that MGMT also have a unique sound but Gorillaz are unique as well.

I have Oracular Spectacular (????????) but it's not that consistently good of an album. To be fair, Gorillaz' debut was good but not great. However, Demon Days is almost perfect so they win in that category.

Actually, whether or not MGMT rocks my brains out, I'm sure you'll change your mind once you see Gorillaz.

Are you Randy? You are, aren't you?

I find the exact opposite to be true. Absolutely love the debut and think that Demon Days is dreadfully boring. I think that more people just love Demon Days because that was their first real exposure to Gorillaz.

Demon Days wasn't my first exposure to Gorillaz (I can't stand hearing DARE at this point), and I still think it's great. From my experience introducing people to Gorillaz, Demon Days tends to be more accessible than the self-titled. Tommy, a notorious devoted Gorillaz fan, has the exact opposite opinion as you... he thinks Demons Days is great and the self-titled is boring.

If you take out the board regulars they're almost even. I'm not trying to make excuses, just sayin. For the most part it's only lurkers that relentlessly bump these polls for months after they've takn place. Regulars all get their votes in within a day or two.

You realize this poll's public, right? I wasn't just guessing.

And no, Demon Days was not my first exposure to Gorillaz nor was it what got me hooked on them. Maybe I just came to the conclusion that Demon Days was better by listening to both carefully. Demon Days is way more consistent and flows. Gorillaz is good but it's all over the place and feels like just a collection of songs to me.

I agree with this. Demon Days wasn't my first exposure to Gorillaz either. But it's the album that got me really into them as a band. There several boring songs on the self titled, but I love every song on Demon Days.
