This is a good article that is relevant to the discussion about how much immigrants are paying into the system.

Highlights include.
According to a study by the Urban Institute, the 1996 welfare reform effort dramatically reduced the use of welfare by undocumented immigrant households, exactly as intended. And another vital thing happened in 1996: the Internal Revenue Service began issuing identification numbers to enable illegal immigrants who don't have Social Security numbers to file taxes. This is a nice resource titled 'Basic Facts on Illegal Immigration it cites it's sources at the end as well. One might have imagined that those fearing deportation or confronting the prospect of paying for their safety net through their own meager wages would take a pass on the IRS' scheme. Not so. Close to 8 million of the 12 million or so illegal aliens in the country today file personal income taxes using these numbers, contributing billions to federal coffers. No doubt they hope that this will one day help them acquire legal status — a plaintive expression of their desire to play by the rules and come out of the shadows.

Studies show that only 2% of Mexican immigrants have ever used welfare or social security and only 3% have ever used food stamps. In comparison, 84% pay income tax and none of them file a return. Because so many of them pay into the tax and social security and Medicaid systems without being able to retrieve any of that money or benefits, the government actually makes a substantial profit on each illegal who comes here. This has resulted in a surplus in social security funds of more than $50 billion a year just from payments applied to fictional social security numbers. After factoring in services provided, on average during his time in the US, an illegal immigrant will contribute $80,000 more to the government than he consumes in services.
Interesting stuff. The growth of the Earnings Suspense File is staggering, and clearly it's because of the 1996 welfare reform act. Considering CA contributed to 33% of the file, and top industries include Agriculture, Restaurants, Services, and Hotels it's pretty clear who's building it up (not identify theft or clerical errors)...and about 50% have an invalid SS or one with 000-00-0000, which means there is no hope in recovering the contributions once an individual reaches retirement age.
Which brings up an important point. These are Social Security taxes, which your sources fail to clarify. Still a big deal, but not to be confused with income taxes, which are actually negative due to the earned income tax credit.
Also, others may choose to include a fuller picture of the cost in their analysis'.
Source
Your source, F.A.I.R. is also against legal and illegal immigration. Here are the 7 principles of FAIR. They don't want anyone coming here, so I think it's safe to say they will do anything to skew the facts in their favor.
FAIR advocates "7 Principles of True Comprehensive Immigration Reform":
1. Reduce the flow of immigrants
2. No legalization
3. No Guest-Worker Program
4. Protect Wages and Standards of Living
5. More Enforcement
6. No Asylum
7. Immigration Time Out (Very strict immigration only for "a narrowly focused refugee resettlement program" and limit family reunification each year)
I think I was nice when I said "others may choose to include a fuller picture". Your sources are just as incomplete as the ones I found are skewed. There are costs and benefits, but I don't know the net economic impact, whether it's positive or negative, and niether do you. I know you have an idea of what you want the answer to be, but come on, it's silly and that's not what the debate is about. I know you were simply defending the weak stance of a piror poster, but don't fall into the trap of providing half-sided resources.
Fair enough i was just pointing out that organizations motives
::chucks::
I wonder who people will start to blame for the countries concerns once the number is at zero...

The number of illegal immigrants in the United States has begun to shrink, ending two decades of steady growth, according to a new study by the Pew Hispanic Center.
An estimated 11.1 million illegal immigrants lived across the United States as of March 2009, down nearly 8 percent from a peak of 12 million in 2007. Still, the unauthorized population remains a third larger than it was in 2000.
"This is something we haven't seen before," Jeffrey Passel, a senior Pew demographer, said of the decline. "It's a rather large decline and sustained over two years."
Passel attributed the new trend to a sharp decrease in the number of illegal immigrants crossing U.S. borders in recent years.
The in-flow of unauthorized immigrants averaged 500,000 per year for the first half of the decade, but plummeted to an estimated 150,000 a year between 2007 and 2009, according to the report. "There is constant in and out movement among immigrants," Passel said. "But what's changed most is the number coming in."
While the study does not identify reasons for the decline, experts say stepped up enforcement of immigration laws and enhanced border security measures have contributed to the change. Over the past decade, lawmakers have approved funding for more border patrol agents, construction of hundreds of miles of border "fence," deployment of unmanned aerial drones and new systems for employers to verify the legal status of immigrant workers.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has detained and deported an increasing number of illegal immigrants since 2001, removing 387,000 last year alone -- a seventh consecutive record high.
But the U.S. economic downturn has also played a key role in mitigating the incentive for prospective illegal migrants, who typically come in search of money and jobs.
"Because it's harder to get in and when you get in you may not be able to find a job, fewer appear to be trying," Passel said.
You know, but that's valid because if we are all gonna die anyway shouldn't we be enjoying ourselves now? You know, I'd like to quit thinking of the present, like right now, as some minor insignificant preamble to something else.

You know it was two guys drinking in the garage and one of them stopped and squinted and carefully reviewed their work so they wouldn't look ignorant in the morning. That M is about to pull a left turn onto the rear door.

The 4:00 minute mark shows the reporters pressing Brewer on the beheadings claim she has made and continues to ignore the question completely.
