"True Tool Fan"... ya know, there's tattoo parlor just down the way on the strip here. I think I'm gonna go get that tramp stamped on my butt (it can go right next to the little breaking heart with MJK's initials inside it).

Great show last night. For a longer review from me some of ya know where you can go. It was one of the looser performances I've seen from the band. But two shows into this tour, I expected as much. The set list really is all that. Terrific pacing both musically and visually. What's odd, is I really felt like the stand out performance moment last night (other than Hooker) was 46&2. I've been saying how sick I am of that tune live, but it definitely felt like more than just an old stand-by. The visuals, sound, and of course Maynard, nailed it cold. Intension also a visual highlight.

Shiatty damn cold I got goin. Trying to suck the fun outta my time here but not gonna let it happen. Good seeing MuseRadio last night. And I think I still owe kingsblend a poster at some point.

I saw Tool 3 times on the 10,000 days tour. This show was better. The visuals were incredible and overwhelming. I want more! What an intense live experience.

Tool is like an abusive spouse. You keep saying you're done and don't care, then they do something cool and you start to think "well, maybe they've changed."

It's been there from the beginning.. the weak Britpop headliners Friday; the rumors that DP was gonna play, that it was a done deal, then all of a sudden 'oops, no, not gonna happen'; and now the new album. It's all so obvious.

    Re: 46&2.

I can echo this sentiment. This song has been taken to a whole new level. I thought the same way about Schism. Both Schism and 46&2 are songs I could certainly do without. But, the way the band is playing them gives them a whole new life. I've heard Schism at every single Tool show I've been to and the one on Saturday has got to be my favorite yet. The way both songs were played were, for me, just as impressive as the setlist as a whole.

I think Schism -> Intension -> 46&2 was my favorite part of the show.

So, in essence...you've still not seen Tool. Nice work.

Tucson in top 3 all time Tool performances for me. Probably can't be #1 because of the venue. Not that it's the worst I've been in... sound and acoustics were ok, but just a stinky place for a show. Reminded me of the LA Sports Arena. That said, top 3 in terms of band performance. Will write more later but want to defer to our resident AZ dwellers and their thoughts for now.

While I just posted in the thread earlier, I actually did not read any of the setlists/reviews.

Just got back to my house. Ho.lyshit.

While waiting to get inside the venue, my buddy and I could hear the muffled sound check. Lateralus was easy to detect. Next up...Hooker. I looked at him and said it, but didn't expect to hear it and quickly dismissed it when we went inside the venue.

We had a fourtheye reader sit next to us and say that he was geeked out for the setlist after reading Vegas and Reno, but I stopped him right there asking him not to spill the beans. The lights go out, and they start with Hooker. My God. I never expected to hear this song by them (even with the soundcheck), and at that point was sold that the show was going to be stellar, but I really had no clue.

Jambi is a personal fave of mine from 10K Days, so I loved it unconditionally.

Fucking TICKS?! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand my head has just exploded. Had difficulty comprehending what I was seeing/listening to, and didn't know what to expect afterwards.

Stinkfist was a staple and is just meh in my book, but then Pushit started and my jaw hit the floor.

Too tired to really grasp what I just saw, but the added visuals intensified the experience. 46&2, Lateralus, and Aenema were beasts with the updated backdrop. Intension was fantastic to witness as well, even though the crowd wasn't too into it.

Verdict: of the 5 times I've seen Tool ('98, '01, '07, and '09), this is either their best show or their second best. I'm still in amazement.

Edit: As mentioned above, the band was very loose. While Justin was tuning his bass, MJK was exclaiming at how hungry he was, and politely asked a vendor for popcorn ("Give me some popcorn, motherfucker"). About 30 seconds later, a vendor threw a bag of popcorn on the stage while MJK lets out an excited "YEAH!"

Ticks & Leeches is pretty fucking awesome...but, not making me feel regretful whatsoever (I've heard all those songs, hence my high bar for new shit). It's nice that you guys all seem very happy, though.

I know this is the day of big productions, but I really do miss these days (when it comes to Tool):
