To be perfectly honest, I'm gonna go with Salah on this one. Much as I think they'd kick ass at Coachella and impress a lot of people who'd ordinarily scoff, I think their greatest chance for success would be in a sub-headliner slot on the main stage. They just don't have the pull to headline, and I think surprising people from a sub spot over disappointing people simply by virtue of having been chosen to headline makes for a potentially better experience for everyone.

Yeah, they wouldn't headline. They tour a lot; last two times they came here they played the Celebrity Theater. Just not that big of a draw anymore.

Excellent! I saw them at Madison Square Garden on that tour, and they were fantastic. Even better than the first time I saw them in the same venue three years earlier.

I'm not sure how I feel about them at Coachella...definitely as a subheadliner if at all. They are outrageously fun live. They subheadlined under the Cure at the KQOQ inland Invasion 4: Flashback to the Future and they were super good and completely entertaining.

Aside from a brief run of shows out west last July, Duran Duran haven't done a full-on tour of the US (or much of anywhere else) since 2008. And according to Nick Rhodes, outside of a few corporate gigs, they're not playing any shows until at least late this year. With their new album due in the "first quarter" of 2011, the timing for a Coachella appearance would be ideal. They're not oversaturated in the US, they'll ostensibly be promoting new material, and they've always shown no issue with playing what the crowd wants to hear.
