the shins are one of those bands that sound so fucking wonderful live that it dwarfs their studio work. new album or not these guys would be a welcome performance at coachella!

I think Broken Bells are more likely, but either way I'm down.

I've heard grievances of how terrible they are live. As desirable of a set this is for me personally, I have my own doubts as well

Really?? I have seen them three times and every time was seriously perfect. I didn't know they ever played bad shows.

I saw them live 3 times (only one headlining) and they were spot-on wonderful for all of the sets. The last time I saw them was about a year ago, and they played maybe 4 or 5 new songs. So they definitely have material (and have for a while). It should happen.
Friday: Outkast, The Knife, The Replacements, Broken Bells, Girl Talk, Haim, Bryan Ferry
Saturday: Lorde, Empire of the Sun, Fatboy Slim, Nas, Kid Cudi, Sleigh Bells, CHVRCHES, Mogwai, Bombay Bicycle Club, Holy Ghost!, The Internet
Sunday: Arcade Fire, Neutral Milk Hotel, Disclosure, Chance the Rapper, Starfucker, Superchunk, Poolside

I've been fortunate to see the Shins 5 times since '05. Three times at Festivals, once Headlining and once performing at a radio studio (KFOG in SF). The headlining show was here in Seattle after James Mercer fired Jesse and Marty and, to be honest, they were still phenomenal.

I'd wager we get some Shins action occurring in the New Year.

James Mercer fired his last bandmates. I sincerely hope a Shins reunion (or new lineup) is close. If they were able to get an album out before Coachella '11, then it's possible.
Broken Bells is worth double it's price.. but I'm not saying you should pay for it.

They already played a bunch of shows since he fired the 2 guys. With new material. So I don't know that they're broken up as much as they are just working on different stuff right now... but the fired guys are definitely fired.

I'm not really excited about this new "Mercer and Friends" album, but I've wanted to see Phantom Limb live like crazy since that album came out so I'm definitely pulling for a slot in the lineup.

    JUST MAKES SENSE.
