When you said you were 99% sure you were not going, it sounded familiar as my best buddy said the same thing, she goes EVERY year! Same reason too...I had to be the voice of reason(I've been nagging her too- where theres a will, there's a way : ) You have to go because you are a BIG part of what Coachella is for me.
Should I care about Glassjaw playing?
Yeah I'm also a loyal member of the Glassjaw fucking blows club.
According to the lady herself, Magda will NOT be playing Coachella in 2011 (unless GV asks her within the next 3 weeks or so/she subsequently becomes a late add).
She will however, be at SXSW if you care.
My advice... don't. I went there because I had started to get burned out on Miami. And almost ended up regretting not going to Miami that year instead. Or at least, I did regret it, until the next year I went to Coachella instead and realized that's exactly what I should be doing instead of Miami every year.
Or at least, if you do, don't go hoping for great experiences in terms of dance music. Granted things may have changed over the last year (I went in 2009). My two biggest problems with it:
1 - No real good organization as to a complete picture of what's going on. Maybe I've been spoiled by "The List" for WMC every year, but there was nothing remotely comprehensive to be found on line.
2 - Because it's historically been more a showcase for bands, DJ sets tend to be way too short. Seriously, 45 minutes was about the average.
If you're going for other forms of music it could be cool. There's definitely some neat stuff that went down while I was there. But I just found it quite disappointing from a dance music perspective.
That said, Austin's a pretty neat place and SXSW is pretty cheap to do. There's a lot of great food to be found there and in surrounding areas. And I'd bet the Film and tech portions of SXSW would be cool to check out. The Film portion in particular.
Magda sounds like the Twelves, nobody's ever heard of them but you're cool if you have, and if you haven't ... well then PLUR nonetheless!
Crazy, I was thinking to myself, "I bet Tim doesn't know who Magda is and is going to get offended somehow by the mention of her name and think that he is being personally insulted" when I posted that.

other than the fact that Magda and The Twelves are absolutely nothing alike. And they both pull pretty solid crowds... The Twelves are probably bigger stateside at the moment, however.
But then why would anyone have heard of the duo that put together easily the best EM of 09? Either way, show up when they play at Coachella and you'll have a good time.

I ran into Green Velvet after his set last night at The Rave in Milwaukee. He was extremely nice and gracious and I asked if he would be playing Coachella this year and after a thoughtful pause and a smile he said something along the lines of "You never know...".![]()
EXCELLENT.
