I've never been a big Amanda Palmer fan. I dug the Dresden Dolls, since I really like the whole cabaret rock thing, and admittedly I haven't listened to much of the side projects, but I find her public persona to be irritating... I dunno, I've read several interviews and she just grates on my nerves.
Also, I'm sort of bitter that she gets to fuck Neil Gaiman.
Dresden Dolls toured with NIN for what i believe was the With Teeth club tour, before the big amphitheatre tour with QOTSA. This was pretty soon after the first record was released. Trent has a history of collaborating with people he's toured with, like Saul Williams and Aaron Icarus amongst others. I didn't realize Brian was on Ghosts though.
Somehow this EE project went right past without my knowledge of its existence. Sad to hear that it blows. I love both the first and second DD albums (never heard no, virginia for some reason) and Amanda's solo album. I have only seen her once, but she was the highlight of Coachella 2009 for me. That set was so amazingly good.

If you like her solo show, you owe it to yourself to see the Evely Evelyn show. It is so much better than the album, which I have admitted is a bit of a disapointment.
As for what happened to the Dresden Dolls, I beieve that the juggernaut that is Amanda's creative ego finally proved to be more than Brian could handle.
As for Amanda's public persona, I believe that it will become more than she can handle very soon. It was great when she was a small performer in a small band, but with the attention she has brought upon herself through various media outlets, the facade is beginning to crack. The accessability that she has championed is not sustainable. All of the teeniboppers who believe that because she told them that they are awesome, they are the closest of BIFFLs will soon be crushed by the rubble of their own dreams.
Having spent the weekend with her at my house during Coachella 09, I can tell you that she is sincere about wanting a connection with the people who support her, and she is sincere about the art she creates.
Omg that was you? That is so awesome, I read about that last year in her blogs. Didnt you house her whole crew and make them breakfast? lol. I'm jealous.Having spent the weekend with her at my house during Coachella 09, I can tell you that she is sincere about wanting a connection with the people who support her, and she is sincere about the art she creates.
Would so rather have a new DD record... Oh well.

Granted, I feel that a new Dresden Dolls record would probably be horrible at this point. Amanda's happy in life and love and that's the kind of frame of mind that doesn't exactly bode well for writing music that comes from a place of bitterness, anger and cynicism (which is what I like about DD).
The new song is all kinds of terrible but I like it.
I don't think it's supposed to be good per se. It's supposed to be over the top and ridiculous to which it passes with flying colors. I don't understand what you expected- a powerful ballad and lyrically stunning song about different lengths and shapes of pubic hair? How collectively women should revolt against the standards set by society and allow it to become like a jungle to suit our animal nature?
True. I'm sure it is meant to be ridiculous. That doesn't make what we're saying invalid. I, myself, had no idea what to expect. I didn't even know she was coming out with a new album until this morning.
I thought the electronic stuff was a nice touch.

So...Anyone going to see her tour with The Grand Theft Orchestra? Just got my tickets for the Roxy show in the mail.
