Ok I gotta say that . . . I saw Plastikman from the beginning for about 20 minutes, and I was totally underwhelmed. I never heard of him before, so maybe I just didnt get it. The beats were really boring, and it felt like the songs were just 1 note played on a synth with the filter changing up and down here and there.

I was so completely bored, that I left early and checked out Gorillaz . . . which weren't so great.

Many people are listing Plastikman as their fave act this year . . . but I guess I dont get it. IMO, Bassnectar killed everyone inside the Sahara by far. Best Sahara act this year 1,000 times over.

Plastikman is a Ritchie Hawtin side project, it's minimal techno. If you're not into minimal then yeah, this might not be your thing.

Fucking shit I am SO happy!!! I reviewed the Beatival lineup and Plastikman is on it. I was kicking myself in my ASS for missing this set!!! Here's hoping no Fever Ray or High Contrast conflict!

hey no worries mate.. plastikman isn't nearly as accessible as most of the sahara acts this past weekend.. a bunch of my buds didn't "get it" either and one of them ended up having a bad trip haha.. though i will tell you that I thought the latter half of the set was way better, so maybe you can check it out another time!.. but yeah, bassnectar was gnarly, definitely one of the heavier sets i've heard in awhile

This basically sums it up. Plastikman is definitely not for everyone but if you can get into him it really is amazing. The set progressively got heavier and dirtier and more intense as it approached the end. My trip went pretty great but there were points were I thought I was going to have to leave. Luckily with everyone there I stuck it out.
And yes,
Bassnectar fucking destroyed the Sahara.

thom yorke into plastikman into gorillaz was a way better trip for me. we couldn't stop laughing at how fucking silly oribtal sounded. i kept thinking that maybe on acid it would be more interesting, but unfortunately it was trance dance nation all the way *glowstick dances*

i really want to try to catch plastikman again. i saw that video of the whole LED thing turning white and that looked amazing, kinda like the monolith in 2001 a space oddessey lol.

Comparing Plastikman to Bassnectar or Deadmau5 is insane - two totally different genres and crowds.

Electronic music is one of the most genre-fragmented subcultures on the planet, you cant just lump it all into one pile and rate everyone together. Although i am not personally into either the mau5 or Bassnectar I can respect what they do to bring more people into the fold of dancefloor music.

Plastikman (richie) is a different beat all together - the guy contributed music to the opening ceremonies in Tornio for Christs sake.
