Irony: Gorillaz had NO characters yet Sly looked like one of the Gorillaz characters.

Wow...Glad I kept checking back to this thread to see if Sly would show: I'd have never caught the Webcast otherwise.

What an appropriate end to 2010.

God damn, I hope this shows up somewhere on You Tube, or whatever. I've been sitting at home all weekend, and with the exception of what I've heard about Public Image LTD, this sounds like the best part of the whole damn festival! ... Albeit in a different kinda way. LOL!

Sly eventually showed? And it was a trainwreck?? This I gotta see. I waited in the Gobi for about 40 minutes before finally giving up.

I walked in finally to see Sly. It was a meltdown I'll never forget. Pretty much sums up Coachella 2010.

We parked in the ADA lot - three out of four of us weren't feeling the Gorillaz, so we headed back to our car. On the way there, we hear someone singing "are you ready for Sly Stone?" And we said - HELL YES and walked over to Mohave. It was fucking hell-arious. My friend compared it to the Brian Jonestown/Anton Newcombe type of meltdown, but in my opinion it was wayyyy more entertaining. If we don't come back next year (which is a real possibility) I am so glad our last moments were spent in the presence of a "genius at work". Seriously, Team & GPS and, well everyone else who said it - this performance was like watching what happened to Coachella and GV's reputation after Coachella 2010. Thanks, Sly.

Alright, everybody, let's try to calm down. We all need to go and listen to "There's A Riot Goin' On" and put things in perspective. Sure, I wasn't there, but the fact that this was a trainwreck of epic proportions should have surprised no one.
    Fuck.

Sly Stone was supposed to show up at 7 p.m. to perform in the Gobi Tent at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. After repeated postponements, Coachella announced on its official Twitter page that he had moved to the Mojave Tent and was slated for 10:45, after Gorillaz had started.
However, the band was up on stagem soundchecking and no sly.
He finally came out just after 11 p.m. to a half full tent. He wore a captain's hat, a silver wig and a sparkly coat....

The band tried their best before he came out, getting the crowd hyped up.
However, when Stone took the stage, it went off the rails.
He came out, sat down in his office-like chair behind the keyboard and the band was ready.
But then he stood up and started talking about his lawsuit, describing himself with a racial term.
He said people shouldn't be slanderous, but then said he was going to be, and called out Jerry Goldstein, his ex-manager who he filed a $50 million lawsuit against in January. Stone is alleging fraud and stolen royalties in the suit.

He ranted that he didn't have money and had been living in hotels, but that it was starting to get straightened out and he could buy shoes now.
He showed off black leather shoes with laces to the crowd, who seemed confused.
Then he sat down on the edge of the stage and rocked back and forth and told the crowd he wanted them to hear his new music and got upset when the band couldn't play the tracks off the computer and he started making up more lyrics.
The band at times looked exasperated, but the trumpet player tried to salvage it by telling the crowd that that is upcoming new music from Stone.
Finally he stood up again and the band tried to do "Stand," but didn't get very far before the music trailed off.
Then they tried "Family Affair" and "Hot Fun in the Summertime" without either one sticking.
After more awkward pauses, the band finally started "Dance to the Music" and managed to get through the song, despite some missed cues on when to come in.
The band didn't even play it at first, as the dwindling crowd sang the chorus for him.
After another long pause and possibly the opening to "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again)," the band went straight into "(I Want to Take You) Higher" and it was the first full song of the set that made sense.
At 11:45, a rush of people came into the Mojave Tent.
There are maybe a couple of hundred people in here at most while the band is actually performing "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again)."
The set ended pretty much after that.
"I think it was a disaster--it's a trainwreck," said Shaunt Gharibian, of Los Angeles, who had tried to see Stone in the Gobi tent at 7 p.m.
"There's not really words for it," he said.
    Other fans were disappointed.
"I was really excited to see him," said Catherine Messana, of Pasadena "I'm a little disappointed."
    She left soon after.
    Stone left as well.

Ugh... saw Gorillaz... I wish I had known.

Anyone have a capture of the webcast or any videos?

I dont know how people didn't know Sly was going on at 10:45. The SECOND Thom Yorke ended a voice came on and announced that Sly was here, and would be starting at 10:45 in the Mojave.

I was all set to go home after Thom, but only Sly could make me stay. It was insane and I have no idea what was going on, but I'm glad I saw it in person.

I was there at 7pm when they said he was "postponed". Which I thought meant cancelled. I walked by the tent after Little Boots and it looked like they were taking everything down. I stayed for Goriilaz until 11:20pm then headed for the car and got back to Santa Monica by 2am. Now it looks like I missed the most legendary performance of Coachella 2010. My good vibe has been completely destroyed. I coulda been there.

"Goldenvoice -- the Los Angeles company that created and puts on Coachella -- was concerned enough about Sly's history of delayed starting times and missed concerts that it reportedly assigned an employee to stay by Sly's side today, the better to ensure his arrival and performance. So far, that doesn't appear to be working quite as planned." --San Diego Union Tribune

    Ahahahaa.

    It was unbelievable.
My brain was reeling between disappointment, annoyance, confusion, pity, and wonder.

The way he would stop all those people from playing. Notes into songs.
"Fuck the rehearsal. Fuck what we rehearsed."
And an amazing mix of hired musicians, original members of the Family Stone,
and Goldenvoice's hired guy trying to keep smiling and act like this wasn't
the worst idea of all time.
It was like something out of a Christopher Guest movie.

this clip is from a few months ago here in Tokyo

you can tell, he is pretty much propped up on stage and the band tries to keep the song going no matter what he can or can't do

    kinda sad

    too many drugs
