Default "We almost didn't do Coachella this year" - Paul Tollett

    From the LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...503,full.story

"We almost didn't do Coachella this year," said Paul Tollett, 44, the organizer and founder of the 11-year-old show, which is promoted by concert heavyweight Goldenvoice and owned by AEG in Los Angeles. "We felt the economy wasn't looking so hot. But festivals seem to be hanging in there, and I'm as surprised as anyone."

This article is from the future. Also, 200,000 people? Wat?

This happens occasionally with the LA Times, I'm not sure why though. I remember finding an article that had an April 11th date, but I was looking at it on April 9th.

I guess this is the reason that the dates were announced later than usual. I'm guessing Gorillaz were the act that held it up. Selling out is a good sign for the future of the fest. Good job Paul!

Well that would certainly be an explanation for that mystery. Kinda feels like Lost.

from now on, all coachella has to do is get one huge act (for this year, gorillaz) and the festival will sell.

next year, all you need is enough people to want to see 1 act, and it will sell out.

paul maccartney sold out the hollywood bowl at $300+ tickets, and he played last year.

Newspapers usually list the print date, if it's going into the printed edition. They'll often load content to the website before it comes out in hard copy.

I'm pretty sure it was more than just Gorillaz that helped move tickets this year

    http://www.coachella.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31232

    2009 - second highest attendance
    2010 - record attendance

What more can you ask for? Higher ticket prices? If they were struggling after 09' I'd like to see how they're not profitable.
