I don't think their music would work at a festival atmosphere, especially during the day/evening. Their music is really sparse and hauntingly mellow and this type of vibe would only fit in a more intimate setting ( at least in the dark). There is a mood that is associated with their songs and to express it during this time of day with thumping bass coming from one of the tents can ruin the songs. The dynamics of the songs does it for me on the album but hearing them live I didn't feel those changes like I wanted to hear. Also, on some songs the vocals or instruments wouldn't exactly be on the same key.

Love the record, wasn't too impressed with the live set though.

The roof on fire at the main stage was the highlight of their set for me. I thought it was boring and a little repetitive. I was just waiting for hot chip though and I'm glad I did because they were incredible. Crystalized sounded great and then everything else was flat.

I kind of felt like I was hearing the same song over and over.

i actually sort of enjoyed it, and was able to get a great spot for hotchip, so it wasn't too bad.

It was perfect. Awesome sunset in the background and weird fire on the top of the main stage during Coheed and Cambria it was great.

Almost forgot about the roof fire at main-stage. I thought it was a bad omen.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was disappointed in them. They needed more percussion or something. I left after about 3 songs. I was really looking forward to their set too.

I thought they were very good, although I was close to the stage. Might have sounded boring further back.

I also was not familiar with more than one or two of their songs, and only slightly. I think if I had been at Coachella by myself with no influence of friends I would've been at Bassnectar, but I think I'll have no problem seeing Bassnectar again.

Part of the reason it was awful, and I agree, was that the person in charge of placing bands on whatever stage at whatever time didn't have clue. The XX should have been in one of the tents at NIGHT, not in the daylight outside. A total letdown for me, and XX was one of the acts I didn't want to miss. But then again, this Coachella sucked on 1000 levels.

i was really close for their set, so it actually felt like a really intimate concert for me. i can see how if i was further back it wouldn't have been so great. to me, they seemed really nervous (being 18 or 19 or 20 or however young they are, i would be too), but after the bassist made the joke about the main stage roof being on fire, they seemed to relax. and i totally agree that the ending was perfect.

the xx sounded very clean. Exactly what they sound like on their record. If anything, they could have interacted with the crowd more and had a little bit more stage presence. & the distractions didn't help either. Along with the main stage fire, the crowd started cheering midsong as jay-z and beyonce took a seat up at the front.

the XX had a huge opportunity here with the sunset slot on the Outdoor Theatre and they blew it, IMO. The album is one of the best to come out in a while. A lot of soul, feeling and meaning, but none of it came through live. They had little/no stage presence and there was definitely something missing. I thought it was good, but not great at all. I am totally bummed that they conflicted with Bassnectar and I was too far into the crowd to leave and then have to come back for Hot Chip. With that being said, Hot Chip absolutely killed it and blew everyone away except for Muse...

The XX album kind of sounds like a bunch of different versions of Wicked Game by Chris Isaak to me the few times I have heard it, but I thought they had a good set. It put me in a good mood for Hot Chip and was very pleasant after Dirty Projectors with the sunset and everything. They really lit that place up like a christmas tree on saturday.
