If they played - which they wont - I would think they would
headline.
And it would be LAME
I saw them do AJA last year at the Gibson. Was great. Coachella? Sure why not? And anyway, I am always game for one more "oldster" band on the bill just so I can read whiny forum posts from some of the punks 'round here.
/now get off my lawn
I don't think Coachella is the right demographic for them, hipsters tend to have a pretty vigilant hatred toward them, although I'm not sure why.
It would rule to have them at the fest though.
"Is being overpaid to play somebody else's music so hard that you can't fucking carry some records?"
are they any good live anymore?
only if the beat up the eagles onstage
Yes. Donald's voice is, as you would expect, fairly shot, but he still pulls it off. And the band... well Steely Dan were always mainly studio musicians. Some of the best in the business. And they still are. The drummer on the last tour (Keith Carlock) flawlessly reproduced all of Steve Gadd's original drum parts on AJA. It was pretty spectacular to see.
can't believe no one's said it yet....."Steely Dan gargles my balls"
Iron Maiden, Boards of Canada and Underworld for 2013
I wouldn't have a problem with this, but it won't happen -- maybe at Bonnaroo.
my absolute favorite band from before i was born. possibly the reason i started playing music. i could see them coming on right after another classic headliner and drinking Cuervo into the wee morning...
JAY-Z -vs- COACHELLA '10
an album length session of mash-ups,
edits, and mixes for the road to Indio...
See you on the campground : )
Agreed that Steely Dan are unique and Donald can still deliver the goods live. However, for this year Bonaroo has who I feel is the best pop/rock keys player in Stevie Wonder. Not to digress too far from topic but Stevie is the most talented old school keyboardist/singer on the planet.
I know a lot of people that adore them, hipsters included. I can't stand them, however.
i feel like a paul mccartney solo set and a steely dan set would attract the same sort of crowd. i'd even venture to include prince, too.
people hate the idea, but walk away impressed. there's always other alternatives, being more than one stage, as well.
regardless, steely dan are touring this year and are making a stop in chicago around september, if i have it correctly, so they'll probably not be scouted anyways for next year.
