Thread: I just realized something . . .

    Default I just realized something . . .

Going through the artists that I dont really know right now, to see who I might want to catch . . .

First thing I noticed is As Tall as Lions is way low on the list and I cant believe it because I'm absolutely amazed with what I heard. I will definitely be up early to see them.

Second thing I noticed is . . . the electronic music line up this year is completely outstanding. This year its definitely going to be all about the non headlining acts. I might spend most the time in the Sahara.

    a) It's always (mostly) about the non-headlining acts. Even when Rage Against the Machine was there, even when Prince was there. Maybe not when Macca was there, but come on.
    b) Don't be surprised, there are always gems on the bottom of the lineup. That's what a festival like Coachella's about!
    c) This is going to kick ass!

Well, you started a semi obvious thread, but I actually agree with what you are saying, so I will not be mean.

Indeed - I find out about a good chunk of new artists/music solely as a result of Coachella, God bless it.
Nothing to see here, folks - just move along

Well, when i said headliners i meant like, the top 3 lines, not really the top one or two acts on top. There have been times when Coachella had really solid top tiers. This year they have a few but not as many as other years.

And I agree, Coachella is all about the lesser gems.

Cant wait to get out there.

Oh, well in that case I kind of disagree. Compared to 2008, for example, this lineup's top 2 or 3 lines blow it out of the water. I love this lineup from top to bottom, favorite since I began attending in 06. Favorite headliners, above-average subheadliners (Friday's are weak, but there are things to like about them). A bunch of rare acts on the third line.

However, there are gems all over the lineup - it's brilliant.

For sure as hell not on Saturday though, Muse/FNM/Tiesto vs Prince/Portishead/Kraftwerk is the biggest gap of any day in fact. This year's Sahara lineup is definitely one of the best for me though, the undercard kicks major ass. Probably my favorite lineup since 2007.

Tiesto sucks, but Saturday is great otherwise. Definitely Saturday vs. Saturday 08 wins. But yeah, '10 overall kicks vagina.

This is the most solid line-up (top to bottom) Coachella has ever had.

In retrospect, past line-ups look great because all of those lower-tier bands are now "in", but I wouldn't be surprised if a few years from now people start shitting bricks over how low some of these amazing bands were billed.

Yeah... Rage and Daft Punk were memorable headliners, but people will go ape shit over what's about to happen next week.

Last year I did some research with the bands that I didn't know... which were a lot. This year I was even more thorough and had listened to every single artist like 2 months ago. I found TONS of great acts I want to see. I've got over 15 a day that I really want to see.... and that's not counting the camping line up.

Everyone should research more while you can. It really helps to know who you like and really want to see before set times come out. I plan on seeing as much as I can and being there at the start each day so I plan on seeing close to 20 acts a day. That's about what I averaged last year and it was perfect. This year I'm even more prepared since I already picked out the bands I wanted to see 2 months ago and started getting into their catalogs. Now I'm very familiar with all the new artists that I discovered and that will totally make a difference when I need to figure out what acts I'm gonna see once set times are posted.

My Coachella playlist is 10GB and over 4 days worth of music. That's a lot to go through.

wow 20 acts a day is a lot. I like complete sets and spontaneous decisions too.

I usually see about 10 - 12 sets & am completely content with that. I like full sets, even though some times I make sacrafices I may later regret.

last year i jumped from stage to stage to stage on Friday and Saturday. Then on sunday I pretty much sat around and watch full sets by bands. I enjoyed the relaxed feeling I had on Sunday that I think this year I am going to keep it up.

I cant watch 15-20 acts in one day, that is way too many, i am hoping to keep it to 10-12 at the most. But we will see when the times are released because i am afraid people are going to overlap.

Macca haha, the undercard last year was still way better than the headliners, people need to quit giving him credit for being an average performer, maybe below average.

If the Sahara tent is mainly for raving and dancing, then I probably won't be in there...much But as it's my first time, who knows...
My first novel, Darkhouse, has been published and is available here on Amazon. It has nothing to do with Coachella. Or vampires.

I never spend as much time as i want in there.

I think i saw 4 acts on Friday in the Sahara last year and that was by far the most time I have spend in one day

Crystal Castles -> Ghostland Observatory -> Girl Talk -> Presets

just happened to be a string of artists i really wanted to see that all played one day, basically in a row (although i did leave to catch 40 minutes of Leonard Cohen)

There are quite a few Sahara acts this year I want to see, but I have a feeling I'll be elsewhere for most of them

All I said was it was about him last year. It was. Normally the headliner caps off a great day, but last year on Friday, it was 8 or 9 hours of opening acts. Everyone was there to see him.
