Questions about Press Pass

Hey, I've been to Coachella before but my local magazine has submitted for a press pass and I have a few questions.
1) When will they tell me if the pass has been accepted?
2) Does anyone know the likelihood of getting it accepted?
3) Would I just pick it up at the entrance or where?
4) With just a standard press pass, will I get any special privileges, such as being allowed in certain areas to take photos?

Thanks in advance. I bought a ticket as well just in case it doesn't go through, so I'm prepared!

you need a photo pass for the special areas which are all gone

you should get a reply within a week I think and they should have been allocated by now

A week from when the request is submitted? Or within a week of the show?

Most publications that applied just got their confirmations this Friday (yesterday). Usually most apply before December and they tend to be limited.

Asking for press is one thing, harassing is another. The latter doesn't usually work and will probably get you in the trash file every four days. It also depends what you already have under your belt in terms of coverage of other events/shows/previous Coachellas, who you're shooting/writing for, etc. It took a few years of asking before they said yes. This is our 2nd year in a row of "officially" covering Coachella with a press pass. Before we would go and write about what we saw for certain acts. Try going and writing about the festival anyway and use that to show them you have the chops! Just sayin'. =)

Cool. Free water sounds awesome. I'm assuming they'll have outlets for people's computers? I'm not going to have very much access to a phone charger over the weekend otherwise.

I did get one, our magazine actually got two including a photo pass.

Yeah, the outlets are under the tables set up for press. It's first come, first served. It's not just computers being plugged in but also people's cell phones, chargers for cameras, etc. Maybe we should bring an multi outlet extension! It can get pretty crowded so plan accordingly and play nice with those around you. We met some cool people covering the festival from other countries. Who are you covering Coachella for again?

I'm covering Coachella for SLUG Magazine (Salt Lake Underground), a local (and free) magazine out here in SLC. We usually cover local topics but we've apparently covered Coachella for a few years now and I also wrote a piece on Treasure Island Festival last fall.
I don't actually get paid, but I do in perks and trade. And I consider not having to pay $300 for a ticket "getting paid." Haha.

Have a few batteries in your bag. On short notice you might not be able to get a deal, but having multiple batteries when your camera uses rechargables is essential.

An easy solution, but I didn't actually think of this problem until about two days ago and now I don't have any extra money. So that's my fault. Oh well. I'll do what I can, and then just have fun!

If you have friends with the same camera or the same batteries, borrow them. You will have fun if your power runs out, but you will have that nagging sensation every time you see a great shot and can't do anything about it. At least have your charger in your bag and juice up any chance you can.

Use your view finder as much as possible. Don't waste power reviewing pictures. Hopefully you have a large card so that isn't an issue.

Yeah, I'm just gonna pull it out real quick and try to keep it off as much as possible. I have a 4 gb card so I'll be chill, I'm by no means a professional photographer so I don't take a ton of pictures. I get into the music and usually forget for a while.
I actually didn't have a camera for about a year and just used my iphone. It's pretty amazing how you can make art with just about anything. I got some awesome photos with it of that piece of art outside the Sahara tent last year--that 30x10x10 thing of glowing lightbulbs.
