Default how to make shade happen...

i've been to coachella 4 times and camped every time so far, but I'm becoming less and less happy with the waking up at 7:30 am every morning from the scorching heat inside the tent. i've decided to bring some shade with me this time. do i have to buy one of those fancy canopy things or will a tarp and some poles suffice? are there certain canopies which work/don't work well? any helpful experiences with shade-making? any advice would be much appreciated!!

Last year there was a thread on how to make a cheap home made one. Anyone have the pix or directions?

Cover the fly of your tent in alumminum foil. Shinny side out of course. Thats what I'm doin. That or mylar survival blankets.

wouldn't covering your tent in highly reflective material be really ANNOYING to everyone else, as blinding rays shot off your disco ball tent?

does anyone have pictures of a tent that is shaded, by a canopy or tarps? i've seen those pictures where you can make out that someone has a canopy on the campground, but i don't know if they have chairs under there, or a tent. i figure you've got to block off the east side to keep out the morning sun.

hmm shade sounds like a luxury.
if your problem is the light, you could just bring a blindfold.

i think the problem is the 100degree heat in your tent when the sun comes up

Mylar survival blankets would work better than Al foil due to crinkle factor. And who cares about the minuscule about of light being reflected off my tent. This thing called "Le Sun", I've heard, is brighter. And I think everyone is allowed to be as naked as they damn well please given the temps. I for one will be sleeping buck ass naked with an ice pack on my teabags.

I have a little green canopy that I bought at target, and I attach fabric shower curtains to the horizontal poles so I can draw them shut at night....works like a CHARM.

So what I would just put the Mylar survival blankets over the rain guard or whatever part of the tent?

What would be the best way to keep it there?

I'll bring a 50 ft. sheet if you guys bring some poles; we can make a shady community

but then somebody would have to sell stolen watches and I'm not down for any watch theft

I'm a highly trained and survival savvey Eagle Scout so if you guys need help constructing make-shift shade structures I'll be around the site; maybe in uniform.

It says in the guide to camping that your entitled to 7x7 if camping alone and double that if ur camping with someone. So thats 14x14 according to the guide even thou that seems very large.

If the canopy is 12x12 then bobs ur uncle

"What size tent can we bring/how much space do we get?
If you are not sharing a tent with anyone else, it may be as large as 7' x 7' (aprox. 50 square feet). If you are sharing a tent with other onsite campers your tent may take up an additional 7' x 7' (50 square feet) of space per person.

Incorrect. Two spaces would be 7x14. 14x14 would be allocated to four campers.
