    MONOTINIX!

    The National
    Massive Attack
    Mumford and Sons
    Jonsi

I can go on and on. Very nice. I'll be seeing all of them elsewhere but I wouldn't mind going to this some day. It's far more appealing than Oxegen plus it's a chance to visit with Gemma again! I have a feeling this isn't going to be likely for me though. Maybe 2011.

It's not the biggest or the brightest, and the ticket price is a bit hefty for the lineup, but there's quite a bit to see and do beside the actual music, as you guys might understand.

It's in a pretty setting, with a friendly, unhurried crowd, it's got a nice, hassle-free atmosphere and it's one of those festivals where you can discover a dozen new favourite bands in half a day. I'm very fond of this festival, and it's been very good to me; it lost a little of it's ramshackle charm under a management change, but the guys and girls doing the actual work really love it and they really love that music.

Depending on college exams, I might not be able to make it this year, alas, but for anybody curious who missed it last time around, this is my review from last year.

    from their wiki

Leftfield are due to headline RockNess in June 2010, with further headline festival shows to be announced in the coming weeks.[5] However, Leftfield this time around will be just Neil Barnes with band & singers, and Paul Daley won't be involved as he'll be concentrating on his DJ'ing work, as well as releasing a solo album.

No because MA and Roxy Music are headliner quality.

so, if an American were to go to this, where would they fly into and where would they stay if they wanted a hotel?

I wonder if the board has an Irish woman who lurks around to answer such questions?

You guys need to work on your comedy double act.

TCHY,the nearest airport is Dublin, and they run festival buses direct to the site all weekend. Couple of hours trip. It's probably cheaper to get a bus or train to the town of Portlaoise however ("Port-leash", by the way), bus takes about two and a half hours, train takes about 90 minutes.

The festival takes place in Stradbally, but that's a fairly sleepy little village, so if you're looking for a hotel, then Portlaoise is probably your best bet. Portlaoise is the nearest sizeable town to the festival, and it's only about fifteen minutes away. I don't know a whole lot about hotels there, but the Maldron Midway is the one I've heard mentioned.

There are shuttle buses running from Portlaoise over to the festival all day during the weekend, or, if you just keep an eye out for bewildered looking people wearing too many woven fabrics and rucksacks, you can split a taxi. Cost me about 7 quid to split a taxi last time, the shuttle buses cost about 5 or 6 and they're a good laugh.

I've been awake for almost 24 hours, cut me some slack

But, how expensive is Ireland to make a trip into? How much would I have to budget to stay, oh say, a week?

Ha. Remains to be seen whether I'll make it at all this year, nevermind working at it. But I may cry if it doesn't shake out one way or the other.

Arcade Fire's set in '05 was kind of the making of both the band here and EP itself, so there's a nice sense of homecoming to the whole thing. They came out of nowhere and blew everybody away; when Win went into the crowd they started to tear his clothes off.

I can't lie, I'm a little surprised about it though - EP may have quite a bit of indie kudos here, but it doesn't have a huge chequebook or carry much weight abroad, AFAIK.

AF aside, Pulp was unexpected. I'd very much like to finally see HEALTH.

Awww why not? Hope you make it because this is the ultimate EP.

More festivals should look like this. Lots of greatness, only a few dodgy acts and nothing downright reprehensible.
