Default Lake Cahuilla Camping. On-site car camping alterniative

If your like me and procrasanated to long, or for any reason Missed out on the on-site camping this may be the best bet for you as well. Lake Cahuilla still has about 30-40 "primitive campsites" left. so no water or power hook ups. They have showers and a pool. a lake thats for looking at, but not swimming. It seems to be by far the closest camping other than at polo fields. about a 5 min drive. I just got on it and got a spot reserved and thought I would share this information.
    reservation line
1-800-2347275 ( I was on hold for 2 hrs. hope you have better luck)
    website
    http://www.riversidecountyparks.org/
the site cost 52$ for the whole weekend.
number 12 represents the campsite on this map.
the red x being polo fields.
Hope this helps people in the same boat as me it may be second best but there are deffinatly worse options.
    Goodluck! see you there.

Now that regular camping has sold out, Lake Cahuilla will fill up and be a huge party.

I've done the primitive camping in the past. It's not bad. About a 10min drive to the festival. No shade though.

My first coachella we stumbled upon Cahuilla and did primitve camping. You show up, park ur car anywhere and pitch ur tent. People are all over in random spots and there are decent showers, not a bad spot at all.

Leaving the festival is hit or miss. There is a parking entrance on the far side of the lot that is the best use for coming from Cahuilla. I can't remember the name of the street, but when you get to the turn-about, make a right (the entrance is about a block down on your left). Saves you alot of time getting into the fest, because if you go through the round-about, the cops sometimes don't let you turn into the main parking entrance.

As for shade, I would recommend an easy-up, becasue the sun comes up early, and there is no avoiding it. Also I don't think there are any firepits, so bring some kind of lantern or something.

Lake Cahuilla is awesome, this will be my 5th year in a row camping there. I've done both Primitive and Developed. Lot's of cool people, never had a bad experience. I highly recommend it. Get in while you still can.

All the info you need and more can be found here in the Lake Cahuilla Thread...

It's a cool place, but if the wind is blowing it turns into a nightmare of dust.
Salt and Sea has camping that is more like being near a beach and it has showers.

Booked a developed spot a while back. Just occurred to me that I don't know how the whole electrical thing works. I'm just tent camping. Is it as simple as plugging whatever you need into a socket? Or do you need a special plug or converter of some sort?

I have also camped at Salton Sea and I must say Lake Cahuilla is 10X better, and way closer. I've never witnessed a dust storm at Lake Cahuilla.

There is an outlet next to the parking spot of the developed sites. It's a normal outlet that I usually use for the stereo and cell phone charging.

    and

The food at the end of the night is the best part. And the first photo is deceptive, you wont have any grass or shade. Thats the pool area.

Not really...it CAN totally suck getting out at night. I've driven right out and I've waited in my car for 2 hours. it all depends on where you end up getting parked, and that all depends on when you get there.
