you like these guys, Cara?! cool...didn't know that. (you should hear "Sun" on the NPR stream...it's so good live)
i hope you go see them at the Indy. wished i was going to that show (in Baja), but will be at the LA show the week before. can't wait!
SUN! SUN! SUN! SUN! SUN!
Pretty sure the second SF show is sold out, because I can't buy tickets online...I should have snagged one earlier. But I'll see them at Sasquatch and I'm willing to bet a heavy wager that they'll be at TI, too.

Bowls has so many wonderful sounds in it. I fucking love this song. From the harp to the triangle to the Portishead like beats. I'm all over this album.
nope, just a bad link. try this one. enjoy!

So I've listened to this album a couple times now. What I've noticed is, to me anyway, it's not a casual listening album. If I have it on the background while I'm doing something else it kinda zips by forgetfully.
But cranked up and listened to with full attention, the really good stuff starts to grab me. There's a lot of subtle textures here, and melodies that require me to really listen. I can see this one being a huge grower for me.
I had not listened to Caribou before this album.

Andorra is just as great. But that link still doesn't work, Drew.

hit refresh, G. it works for me. or, just go to ticketweb and start from scratch. or, just pick up a tic at the box office sometime.
Aha! It worked! Thanks.

do you read other posts in this thread, yo? all your answers are contained within.
incidentally, Dan is a fan of AC. it's really diff stuff, imo. as much as i love my AC homies, they are nowhere near the musician that Dan is (and will be the first to admit that). this, to me, is a big difference (more instrumentation-based versus sample-based...and the vocals are really different too...tribal vs melodic). but, i may be too close to this one to be a credible critic. others will have to chime in here.
EDIT: let me be clear that I am not making any claims as to which is the "better" band. i love them both and think they are both amazing live. that being said, i think if Caribou and AC were on the same bill together, that it would be a match made in heaven and everyone would leave there talking about how amazing, and DIFFERENT, each set was. i'll shut up now.

Geezr, I didn't read the thread, my error.
I don't know about comparing on many different levels Rage, it's just the sounds being used that reminds me of them. I'm ignorant to all the technicaly machinery and wizardry these two artists utilize so I don't know that they have identical noise makers and there are certainly vocal differences but I hear lots of interesting noises and sounds from both bands but only one of them is pleasing to my ear.
EDA: Awesome how this thread starts with the youtube clip of Bowls. I feel justified in my instant love for this track.

Mark, are you going to the Clubhouse show on the 18th? Caribou kind of drew a shitty Sasquatch set time so I want to see him in a small venue, albeit a shitty one like the Clubhouse.
I'm trying to fight off the urge due to financial constraints. I was going to see Talib Kweli at the same place next Friday but canceled that as well. $15 for Caribou beats $30 for Talib though so it's back to being a possibility.
do it, faxy. you won't be disappointed...esp if you are fond of enhancements!
I haven't had any "enhancements" in a couple of years but i'm fond of some.
well,...they are so good that you really don't "need" them....they just open the layers a bit. seriously, spend the $15...will be well spent!
So...Caribou is just one guy, right? Was I wrong in calling him "this guy"?
Anyway, glad ticketweb sucks!
Ron Paul 2012!
Upcoming Shows:
Four Tet
Coachella 4/20-4/22
Death Cab for Cutie/Magik Magik Orchestra
Radiohead
some other bands
I get the idea it's similar to NIN, it's Trent's music but on tour a full band. If you are seeing Caribou live, it's Dan's project but he hires a touring band to play with him.
Dan Snaith is the main "this guy" (does all the songwriting/recording), but he's got a full band that tours with them (whether or not it's the same people, i don't know).
one of my favorite things about a Caribou show is how all the bandmembers contribute randomly to the cacophony of sounds and when Dan and the other drummer "duel" (Dan plays various instruments, mostly guitar/synths, during their live shows).
you'll see Psyco.
these should get everyone excited (all Andorra jams):
(some good drum dueling towards the end of this one)
keep in mind, that their club shows (usually) have awesome, tripalicious visuals as well.
The band Dan is currently touring with was with him on the Andorra tour as well.
