Default lax transportation problems - tram or cab?

i arrive at lax at 5:15 pm on thursday.
my greyhound leaves at 6:30 pm thursday.

here's the deal - that's not much time, but i didn't want to wait till 11 to get out of la. i know it's going to take a while to get my bag and whatnot, so which is faster - taking the flyaway to the metro green/blue lines to the greyhound station, or should i just get a cab? would the la traffic take longer than the trams?

is it even realistic to think that i can claim luggage and get to the station in an hour and 15? or should i just reschedule and take the 11 pm greyhound?

any help or suggestions from past experiences and whatnot would be greatly appreciated!

The station is downtown, right? No way to make it in car traffic in less than an hour(rush hour)--I do not know anything about the tram.Lately we have had to wait 30 minutes or so for our bags at LAX-you are cutting it close!

May I make a suggestion? Rent a car! LA is huge and spread out without much public transport to speak of; you'll find yourself walking down long, lonely boulevards with all your gear. Cars are cheap too. A cab will cost you probably 3times as much as car rental for four days!

yeah dude. cab = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and you wont make it in time. LA rush hour is uhhh, well, no joke. and public transportation just doesn't exist here (unfortunately). so yeah, i also suggest you rent a car.

thanks for the advice! renting a car on my own is a bit of a problem due to my age, but i did find one company in la that rents to those under 25. however, they charge you an arm and a leg, so i'll have to see about carpooling i suppose. if all else fails, i guess i'll take the 11 pm greyhound to make sure i'm not short on time.

I'd try posting on Craigslist for LA - carpool & maybe a couple other categories, to see if you can hitch a ride.
