also, the ataxia album (john, fugazi's joe lally, and josh klinghoffer) "automatic writing" is excellent. that's the sideproject that john should showcase at coachella.

...actually, it was really more like 7 albums....'shadows collide with people' was released a bit early in the run up to the half dozen. anyhow, some of that material defintely worked a lot better than others. they never made a box or best of.....but I think if someone could boil all those albums down to about 12 songs with another ten from his pre-californication solo efforts, you'd have a pretty interesting mix of music......

...oh yeah, I'm pretty sure the album he put out around '96 (To Only Record Water)....has been pulled at John's request. copies of it are actually fairly valuable I think. apparently he was so strung out that he released it all to maintain his habit. still....there's some really interesting material on that album.

To Record Water For Ten Days was recorded after he went back with the red hot chilli peppers. the one you're thinking about and is Niandra and Usually just a t-Shirt... its really one of my favorite albums.. so heart wrenching
