Expect Kiss and Black Star to be added to this.

Summer Sonic always has lots of really bad bands on the lineup, but they really outdid themselves with the shit acts this year.

This festival is easily accessible from where I live, so I might still go depending on who gets added and how the set times work out. They need to do a lot better than this though.

no matter how much shit there is on the lineup, can you really deny seeing The Pixies when they are close to your house?
    Upcoming Shows:
    Kasabian/Bo Ningen: 10/1 @ Metro
Coachella: 4/10-12 @ Empire Polo Fields

When they charge 15,800 JPY for a single day ticket, yes I can. Also, I saw them when they came through Japan last time.

But if the Pixies, Black Star, and several others I'd like to see play on the same day without any terrible conflicts, then I'll probably be there.

175 USD, according to this site. Yes, tickets are really expensive over here. The same goes for club shows too.

To be fair though, Fuji Rock is even more expensive with single day tickets going for 16,800 JPY (plus the cost of actually traveling to Naeba, camping/hotel etc.). But since I snagged an early bird presale deal for Fuji, two days at Summer Sonic will cost me only about 30 bucks less than my three days at Fuji.

how we supposed to buy single tickets for SS when they don't even have a schedule up? I only care about the Pixies so far........what a crap lineup!

Yeah, I'm sure Lolla fans are grieving over the loss of Michael Monroe...

Sorry Pixies, I love you and all, but there's no way I'm going to a festival with this lineup.

And where are Kiss and Black Star? Seriously, WTF?

honestly why don't Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic just put their money together and make a 4 day camping festival and make it a little more weather-proof..........and easier to walk around, esp. for handicapped people.........i remember seeing wheelchairs trying to push through the mud pathways last year........japan should be ashamed of that.......but they don't give a fuck

Because they're different festivals with different personalities? While Summer Sonic usually has plenty of good bands (although the lineup for this year is astoundingly crappy), an influx of Nickelback, Linkin Park, and Avril Lavigne is not worth it. And anyway, two major festivals is better than one.

As for the idea of making Fuji Rock weather-proof, my response to that is: no thanks. Dealing with the elements is part of the experience, and as shitty as the weather was last year, I'll still take that over the sterile atmosphere at Summer Sonic any day.

Half the artists on the top half of this lineup are washed up.

You can scratch out Kiss. They've been "cancelled." I use scare quotes because they were never officially confirmed, but there's an announcement up on the SS site stating that Kiss will not be playing Summer Sonic.

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if Black Star ends up not happening either. Look, the prospect of seeing Kiss didn't excite me anymore than it does the rest of you, but this is a fucking disaster. In fact, that's what this year's edition of Summer Sonic seems to be - just one huge, ugly, cringeworthy disaster. It blows my mind that they can screw up on such a grand level.

There is no way that Bonnaroo's lineup is anywhere near as bad as this one. I'm pretty sure that a lot of people in Japan would be more than happy to trade SS's lineup with Bonnnaroo's (although the Bonnaroo bands would probably appeal more to the Fuji Rock crowd than the SS crowd), and I'm equally sure that the Bonnaroo contingent would say "no thanks."

That's true enough, but a part of me wouldn't mind Fuji having a half-assed lineup like in 2008 since that will mean less people. Less people = more space.

2008 wasn't really half asses I don't feel. It just wasn't as strong and didn't have the blockbusters that SS had.

Finally read the interview with Naoki Shimizu (head honcho of Creativeman) on the latest issue of Rockin' On magazine. The interview was conducted before Kiss begged off, so it was really sad reading him talk about why they'd be such a great headliner.

Seems that his first choice was Blur and Muse, but Blur were unlikely to do any shows this year, and someone from Muse had a private wedding to attend that weekend (which is why Fuji managed to snag them, I guess). And then he went after Paul McCartney, but that didn't work out.

He also confirmed that Taylor Swift (um...) and Delphic are playing. And they're apparently going after Eels, although that's not confirmed yet.

I was already leaning heavily towards not going to Summer Sonic this year, but I'm seriously considering committing to World Happiness that weekend, to see Yellow Magic Orchestra and Pupa. SS can go fuck themselves.

Is it even shocking anymore, though? When I read that, I just shrugged.

    Here's the new lineup.

I'm going to assume that Black Star fell through. Here's a hint, Creativeman: if you're going to go around suggesting hints, make sure that the act in question is secured.

Although, yeah, Nas is pretty big. But not bigger than Taylor Swift, in Creativeman's fine judgment. And no, I'm still not going to this.

Taylor Swift, Jay Z, Pixies, Orbital and Jonsi need to leave that shitfest and form their own festival.

Jay Z is a headliner no doubt, but it is a pretty strange lineup. Then again Japan is a strange fucking place. Taylor fucking Swift? Well, the Japanese don't really care if the lineup is odd - because they like just about anything that comes out of the U.S. so it is all good.
