Thread: Car Camping Spot Layout

  1. #1

    Default Car Camping Spot Layout

    First Question:

Every car entering the camping area needs to have a car camping pass. But does every space need to have a car? Can I buy two car camping spaces and secure the spot adjacent to my car for my use?

    Second Question:

Can you answer what the layout of the cars will be? Will it be like this:

Where each space has an open space around it on all four sides and the cars come in and park in horizontal rows?

Or will it be like this:

Where there are two camping spaces in tandem with spots joining next to each other?

Or will be something else? Groups of 9, 16, 25?

    Or do we not know?

    Third Question:

Will you be able to park your car in your spot as you want or will you have to park it with the nose in the farthest front of the spot or vice versa? Can you park it sideways if it will fit?

    Thanks

    1)
Every car entering the Car Camping area must have (1) Car Camping spot ticket to enter. ... and every car camping spot must include a car.
2 & 3) Most likely, cars will be required to park with the nose in the farthest spot of the camping site, facing a fire lane. On the other side of that fire lane, the campers cars be facing your cars. I doubt they want cars parked sideways, in case of the need to quickly move your car, and someone's tent or canopy would likely prevent that. Most cars are longer than 10 feet long anyway, even a mini cooper is about 12 feet long.

    Expect this...
    (From the Phish Festival)

10X30 sounds like a lot of space, but most cars are at least 15 feet length, so that and a 9x9 tent isn't going to leave a lot of room for spreading out.

I figured there were some people that had gone to Phish that could inform me on this.

As for #1, I've read the FAQ and your response doesn't answer my question.

    Here is the tent side

As far as your diagram goes, you can see in "The Clares" pick that it's car facing car and on the other side tent to tent. Your diagram is more like car, tent, car, tent. So every other isle (lot's of space between aisles) you don't really see any cars, but rows of tents with lots of space in the aisle (no you can't put your stuff there, but can play there). Also, there is no space between the borders, all of them are touching like a grid.

They tell you where to park, but later on we moved our two cars closer together and put a sheet between them to create a shade structure. I can't believe we forgot the fuckin' Easy Up. Thank god it was October/Nov. DO NOT COME OUT HERE WITHOUT SHADE! You WILL DIE! It is a shame that GV can't figure out an option that allows people to leave, and get out of the heat for a few hours during the 4 days... sounds dangerous to me. Sorry for the rant.

And yet 1000s and 1000s do it every year with no problems. I don't understand people's obsession with being able to drive away. I camp so I don't HAVE to drive away. Go sit in the KROQ tent or get VIP or something. Live in the Do Lab. Lots of ways to cool off at Coachella, and they are more fun than driving to Dennys or wherever you people go.

(OK, the KROQ tent isn't fun, but it's ice cold.)

From the website I don't think this is true. It says if you want more space you can buy a second spot.

Yeah but it says that in the "tent only" camping section.

Sorry, but my wife has had heat stroke before which makes her much more suseptable to having it again. Spending 96 hours straight in the 100 degree heat of the dessert would be kind of pushing our luck. Yes, we do all of the things that you mention and your right it all helps. + I bring a kiddie pool full of ice, easy up, fan, slip and slide...

And driving away is not really an obsession for me, but WTF do you or anybody else care if I choose to leave for a couple of hours? I'm sorry I don't really get this. We always had this option before and now we don't. For us it is actually a safety issue and now we can no longer camp on site. It would not be that hard for them to have one smaller lot that is for overnight car parking or non-car camping. They always did before.

At the end of the day, when it's midnight in the Sahara, I will be tearing it up...better, faster, stronger.

I don't understand why you're camping in the first place, why not get a hotel?
if you have no problem leaving the grounds for 4 hours you'd have no problem driving to palm springs and back each day.

wha? it got up to ~110 in 04. im sure its hit 100 other times as well.

just because it hasn't the past couple of years doesn't mean the chance is very real every year.

It might hit 100 during the day for a few hours, but it'll drop into the 60's at a minimum at night.

I am hoping that all the car-camping will be on grass, correct?

I feel like the car-camping lot is going to be just as fun as the tent camp +much cheaper. GV did a good job with this.

Yeah with the car parked right there, there really isn't a lot of room at all.

Well yes and no...you're gonna bring 5 people in your car and be restricted to half a spot?? In previous years, everyone had a 7x7 spot, so if you had a group of 5, you had a pretty decent size.....yeah it's cheaper for people this year, but you're gonna have 5 people in a 8x8 tent?? And if you plan on having 2-3 cars, yeah it might work out, unless they make it one car per spot (instead of two cars in one spot)....I just don't think it's as much space as we all think...10x30 sounds good on paper until you park your car there and have 4 friends in it. But again, if you buy 3-4 spots, I guess it might work out well.

We are coing in an Accord, and it is 16 feet long, and the smallest vehicle we have to use; that leaves 14' for 4 people (a couple and 2 solo guys). We are hoping for a single couple to be camping next to us - a single couple that arrive on a Vespa.
