The four Prince shows at the Marquee got scaled back to two shows, one each night, due to "changes in production."

    9/19-Eric Prydz (The Pressroom)
    10/1-The Gaslight Anthem (Marquee Theatre)
    10/10-12-Austin City Limits Weekend 2
    10/24-Warpaint (The Pressrom)
    10/25-Arctic Monkeys (Comerica Theatre)
    10/30-Jimmy Eat World (Marquee Theatre)
    11/3-Yelle (Crescent Ballroom)
11/10-The Black Keys (US Airways Center)
    11/12-Judas Priest (Jobing.com Arena)
    4/10-12-Coachella Weekend 1

It was a ton of fun. Everyone seemed to be in a great mood. The music was better than expected and it was a blast going on some of the slides less than sober. I'd go again.

Holy mother of guitar gods...I got a VIP wristband from Prince's crew before doors opened. I was three feet from Prince. Wow. I need more time to process this.

I'm at work trying to run off of barely 3-1/2 hours of sleep and I still don't think I can properly articulate how amazing last night was. I'll try to later, but for now here's the set list (from Doves to Mr. Goodnight was the sampler portion):

    Let's Go Crazy w/Frankenstein
    Endorphinmachine
    Screwdriver
    She's Always in My Hair
    The Love We Make
    Guitar
    Bambi
    Plectrum Electrum
    Fixurelifeup
    Sex Machine (w/Larry Graham)
Sing A Simple Song (w/Larry Graham)
I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man
    Cause & Effect
    Crimson & Clover
    Purple Rain
    Sign "O" the Times
    When Doves Cry
    Nasty Girl
    Hot Thing
The Most Beautiful Girl in the World / Adore
    Pop Life
    Housequake
    I Would Die 4 U
    Dance 4 me remix snippet
    Mr. Goodnight snippet
    Alphabet St. (w/Larry Graham)

That's cool, man. Thanks for the set list. How'd you manage to get VIP? Were you just chilling with Prince's crew or do you know somebody?

What time did you get there? Are you going tonight? I know doors are at 6:30 but he went on around 8:50, according to another board member's Facebook post. I'm not going to try getting super close (right in front of the sound board is probably going to be my aim) but I've got to pick up my tickets at will call & want to get an idea of what a clusterfuck that may have been (if you had any experience with it).

Everything with the box office ran smoothly from what I could tell. I got there at 4:30. A couple of guys from Prince's crew came out right before doors opened and started giving the VIP wristbands out. Most of them went to women (it was after security had separated the line into men's and women's lines). I got one of the last ones given out to the men's line. I think they gave out around 50-70 VIP wristbands. Wish I could go again tonight, but the lack of funds for another ticket and plus the additional lack of sleep it would mean is keeping me from making it happen. Plus, I just don't know how last night can be topped after scoring that VIP pass. I mean, I'm sure Prince could because he's freakin' Prince, but I'm perfectly happy just being able to have gone last night.

I'm sure that would've worked as well. Forgot to mention about the start time. Some people thought he went on late. He kind of did, but we were told that since the shows got merged the start time got pushed back to 8:30. So he wasn't too late. Also, they told us that his contract stated he only had to play 75 minutes and anything beyond that would be a bonus. The show clocked in at around 135 minutes.

The VIP wristband "only" got me in front of the security barricade. When I was standing right in front of freakin' Prince I suddenly forgot how much I paid for my ticket. That was my first time seeing him and it was well worth the wait. That show last night is already one of my all-time favorites. Prince looked like he was having so much fun up there and the crowd was really, really into it. The sampler set was a huge dance party. I can see why a lot of diehards wish he would do away with it, but as a first timer I enjoyed it. Like Prince said, he has so many hits and it was nice to hear them in some sort of capacity. But if he were to have done say, "Colonized Mind," "Sometimes it Snows in April" or "When We're Dancing Close and Slow," I wouldn't have minded getting any of those instead of the sampler set. When it comes down to it though, I got to see Prince wail away on his guitar just feet from me for two hours so I would've been happy no matter what.

Here's the VIP wristband, by the way. Nothing too fancy, but I'll keep it forever.

Ended up seeing Sara Robinson and the Midnight Special at the Sail Inn on Saturday. I didn't learn they were local, until after their set. They are definitely worth catching if you see them playing at a venue near you.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor playing The Rialto September 16th. Sadly, no Phoenix show announced (yet).

And Twin Shadow making a return appearance at the Crescent June 27th.

Okay, so I know this has nothing to do with Phoenix shows, but you remember how I scored that VIP pass for Prince a couple of weeks ago? Well, my dad and I managed to hit an even bigger jackpot when we picked up our $85 tickets at the Rolling Stones in Vegas on Saturday...

I have no idea what I've done to have such good fortune first at Prince and then at the Stones, but I'll take it. What an unbelievable experience.

Okay, done bragging...I mean sharing...back to talking about upcoming Phoenix shows.
