It's off the TM site now. But, assuming it comes back, where is a good hotel near this arena?

Are you looking just to hit up the Tool show and go back to your hotel for sleep? If so, there's a bunch of hotels in the downtown area.
    I recommend staying here though:

Lots of history (Dillinger and his gang were caught at Congress), close to TCC, has lots of character etc. It's also one of Arizona's best venues.

Thanks Dale. Quick search for the date shows $89 for a night. Sounds good! Still not sure if I can clear schedule enough to make this happen. But definitely looks possible.

I'll be there since I can get into the Rialto for free now.

    Also:
Cults - 3/18 at Club Congress. Not terribly familiar with them, but Cults sounded pretty good at FYF.

I totally would have gone to that show if I was in town. I rarely travel for Calexico alone at this point but I haven't seen Ben Folds in forever. That should be a great show!

I saw Nas there back in the day. I can't recall how good the sound is but the venue itself seemed fine. I'll probably skip Bon Iver since I'll be watching him and Feist at Coachella/Sasquatch.

I have friends in Tucson who went to both AZ shows last year and said the crowd for Of Montreal in Tucson was way better (more of a dance party) than the Phoenix crowd, fwiw. I went to the Marquee show with a friend who has never seen them before. Their stage show had a bunch of wrestlers on the last tour. He said it reminded him of JCW Juggalo wrestling. Killed it for me.

After having to be out sick two days last week and with a couple of week-long trips already in the offing, I'm probably going to opt out on that show. I'm going to Tucson the weekend before anyway and I'm not really all that jazzed by the last couple of Of Montreal albums. Sunlandic Twins and Hissing Fauna were both terrific but I haven't entirely enjoyed the direction Matt Barnes has taken recently. Just not my thing anymore, I guess. Thanks for the insight all the same, though.

Leslie and the Lys at Club Congress tonight for any Gem Sweater fans. I seriously can't believe they've been around as long as they have.

Somewhat - They are playing the full Sunlandic Twins album during one of their SXSW shows! I hope I get in.

I normally don't bother updating this thread (pretty sure I'm the only regular poster who lives here), but there's some awesome stuff coming up. I'm really excited for St. Vincent/tuneyards, and Spiritualized.

Huh, didn't realize Spiritualized is playing there as well.

Timestretch: that sounds awesome (re: Of Montreal). I saw them playing in support of that album at Club Congress back in '06. I'd been going to Coachella for a few years by that point but I hadn't really gone to any club shows -- everything was either raves or concerts at arenas. MGMT opened that show and I remember being struck enough by "Electric Feel" that I wrote the title down in my daily planner afterward with the intention of finding the song to download.

Anyway, hope you're able to get into their show at SXSW. And go watch Fiona Apple, even though it'll make me incredibly envious and cause me to dislike you a bit for a little while.
