I just won tickets to this. Excited. In fact, this is the 3rd show I've won tickets to in the past week from the Bay Bridged.

Yea, it sounds like they will start renovations in a couple of months. Some of it is good (making the venue accessible), I just hope it doesn't become too yuppified.

A friend and I will be in San Francisco from 1/7-1/10 and we're hoping to go to the Rickshaw Stop every night for the 10th anniversary shows. We'll likely be staying at a hostel on Post & Taylor, so I was wondering if the area is relatively okay to walk from the venue to the hostel after the show ends each night. I see that I can take a bus part of the way, but we'd still be required to walk up Taylor. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Yeah you can walk but it will be a 15-20 min walk. It's through the tenderloin which can have some seedy spots but it's safe to walk through. Cabbing is also really easy and convenient.

San Francisco is pretty damned safe overall, but we do have areas where there is a lot of crime, and what's difficult for out of towners is that the 'bad' areas are not isolated in their own portion of the city - a neighborhood can change a lot every few blocks. Anyway, that's not a bad walk. You could go up Van Ness which always has traffic and people and lighting. If you're worried about walking through the tenderloin, you could always grab a bus or taxi for the last 1/2 mi (from Van Ness) though IMO it's perfectly safe as long as you have your wits about you.

Walking down Post/Van Ness to get there will be infinitely safer than taking Taylor/Market.

That's Macauly Caulkin's Velvet Underground cover band. Pizza parodies.

I wish people would stop talking about it as "Macauly Culkin's band" so that people would see it for what it really is.

After strongly considering Sea of Dreams due to the rave reviews about the atmosphere over arena shows like PopNYE, I still chose Pop because of the Madeon/Nero/New World Punx and I was not disappointed. I think they were each so good they deserve to come back this year and New World Punx... wow. They had to play twice as long because of the Bingo Players tragedy and couldn't have consistently kicked ass any better the whole time.

Still haven't got to sleep yet but it was so worth it.

It has been forever since I've been to the Rickshaw Stop -- do the shows start exactly at the listed time? 8 pm means the first opener will be on right at 8, yea?

I think it depends on the promoter. A lot of shows there happen pretty late, if there is just one opener I'd be surprised if they started at 8.
