Crystal Method LIVE is one of the few shows that would get me back to Ruby Skye... dj set = pass

$30 ($45 after fees) for Bassnectar at Mezzanine is not worth it. Seriously....the same price as Groove Armada LIVE? Add to that the fact that it will be the normal mezz crowd + bassnectar's commune + BtB's massive surge and im going to avoid that at all costs.... have fun tho

wait, i thought you (and the others) went apeshit over his set at SoD last year. wtf? and, russell...c'mon...what do you mean "normal mezz crowd"? you've been there once, maybe twice, right? but, the points about "bassnectar's commune" are valid. (don't know what "BtB" is). dunno...it's pricey but it's on a saturday and i can get tix sans fees at the indy box office. i'm a maybe, unless he goes back to relying on that dubstep shit he seems to favor. i don't care how much bass you put in that, it's still gawdawful.

Are you all throwing up over it being the Crystal Method, or a Crystal Method DJ Set, or it being at Ruby Skye? I would probably go see it if I were in town, I loved them live last year.

I'm going to the bassnectar show. either without fees at the box office, or whatever discount price he is offering through his website tomorrow morning.

Eh, the twenty minutes of his set that i caught at SoD was alright. I was rolling so i went and watched Ghostland instead and prefered that. He was pretty much exactly what I expected.... The crowd ive experienced at Mezz has been pretty upscale white hipsterish which clashes pretty hard with the Do Lab posse that Bassnectar seems to bring out. It could be fun its just not really my thing. Id rather save the money and put it towards Massive Attack

Their DJ sets are notoriously awful. They were great when I saw them do a live set in Tucson.

Ah, then I guess I won't miss anything.

I am down for Bassnectar because I've still never seen him and don't know if I will at Coachella.

Erika and I saw TCM spin at Ruby Skye on NYE '08 and it was pretty awful. Don't get me wrong, we don't really have anything against the venue, it's just that from their track selection to their mixes TCM were pretty sucky. Having seen them live in '98,'99 and '09, I have to say don't pass an opportunity to 'em perform live, but for a DJ set your money is better spent elsewhere.

For what it's worth, Erika and I don't care for Bassnectar, which is a sentiment that apparently not many people on the boards here share.

Yeah, I don't like Bassnectar. Or at least I tired of hearing Bassnectar.... That may be what it is. I find myself getting more intolerant of EDM and the whole rave/club thing as I get older.

It's hard to say how much awareness there really is about the album. I mean, there is definitely buzz, but instant sell out buzz? Not sure.

all we need now is for The Golden Filter to open up for her. a nice "insurance policy" should she suck.

I suspect that the opener will be Tune Yards due to opening the next night at the Hollywood Bowl.

I can't believe I have to choose between all access passes to a Thievery Corporation show and Goldfrapp at the Fox.

so, that's why you are supposed to be in chicago?

okay, how many times have you seen TC vs. Goldfrapp (esp since TC seems to play all the fests every other year). so, the rarity part goes likely to Goldfrapp, eh. and, big deal on all access....unless you are at a festival, or know (and actually actually give a shit) that you will be hanging with the artists, it's just a fancy sticker/wristband that you can brag about.

    go w/Allison!

I've seen Thievery three times and Goldfrapp twice (both shows were weak), so I would probably prefer Goldfrapp. On the other hand, Thievery Corporation is pretty much my wife's favorite act, so I'm going to leave the choice up to her, but being backstage at Thievery show is always a big party, so it's not the usual thing.
