We were not really feeling Model 500 (it was good, but there were breaks between each song rather than being continuous music -- it was very hard to dance to, no one was dancing), so my group wanted to split and try to get in to James Murphy. No line, they were charging like $15 at 1:30a, and we managed to catch an hour. It was still pretty crowded at that point though.
James Murphy spun great tunes as usual. Loved the talking heads remix. I think he started around midnight. Crowd sucked but still danced myself clean : )

James Murphy was great. Really glad I lined up kinda early. Got in line a little before 10 and was pulled in by a friend who happened to be helping with the event. Good times.
FREE ticket available to see Typhoon/Laura Gibson/Lost Lander at Great American Music Hall tonight. Show is at 9pm. Will meet out front. Saw Typhoon as an opener for Yann Tiersen at GAMH a few years ago and they were pretty good. Solid 10-piece indie folk/rock band from Portland. Just now listening to some of tonight's openers and they sound pretty decent. Should be a mellow night. PM if interested.
Yes. They throw good parties.
Can't speak intelligently about the venue. Don't think it's ever been used before. W/ a 3 am closing time imposed by the owner, I doubt you'll see it get broken up.
I got in line slightly before 10 and got in around 1045. The long line was for those trying to buy tix. Most of the people with tix got in within minutes.

Saw this announcement (*calendars for both venues look pretty weak though)....

Or we just got there at different times. I kept hearing people asking security why people with tickets had to stand in a huge line, and they said because everyone with tickets showed up at the same time. The line for buying tickets was on the right side, it was probably a quarter or less than the ticket/guestlist line when I got there.
^ That's been my experience at Public Works too, the ticket holders' line is held up while they let door sales through. I always wonder why I bother buying tickets.
