How does s1 e1 compare to the rest of the season? I tried watching this and was not too pleased. the opening was cool, then it seemed to go in to bad storytelling and acting. is it worth checking out episode 2? why?

    why would you do that?

so I don't like the first episode, big deal. I'm asking if it gets any better, what's the harm in that?

One of the public libraries that my office represents received a request from an angry citizen asking us to investigate the library for pornography charges on the grounds that it has multiple copies of the Game of Thrones DVDs.

Did you assure them that all of the penetration was simulated?

while we're at it I may as well confirm for you that all sexual encounters will be as awkward and confusing as your first one is going to be.

Please take on this case. And make it go to trial. And then give an epic speech about Game Of Thrones accompanied by visual aids, for the jury.

... because that's how all lawyering works, right?

How cool, Sigur Ros had a cameo in last night's episode: http://i.imgur.com/XSGdeM1.png?1

edit: that episode was so good, so rich, so devious!

I didn't recognize Sigur Ros at first, but I did say to myself, "wow those are weird-looking instruments."

Yeah, and they also covered "The Rains of Castamere" (which is like the Lannisters' war anthem), which played over the end credits.

I immediately recognized Jonsi, but I wouldn't have if the Interwebs hadn't been atwitter about his cameo on the show.

I wasn't really impressed by the presentation of the Purple Wedding as compared to the book version, seemed rushed to me. Still glad it came and went so we can move on to the other cool stuff that happens to end the third book....

Not sure how the book conveys it but I totally felt the akward uncomfortableness most of the characters had while watching the Imps put on Joffrey's play.

It was much more dread-inducing in the book. I think it was just two dwarves jousting, and one of them ended up dead and bleeding and they had to drag his carcass off. They made a point of how they had secreted the dwarves into town so it could be a big surprise for Joffrey and how humiliating it was to Tyrion. That whole Tyrion chapter was a slow burn of humiliation. I would advise anyone who really loves the show to read those chapters - they were put together very well.

What shocked me was how much of the third book remained at the close of the third season - about 1/3 of the total book. One big difference - Theon Greyjoy wasn't in the third book at ALL, and I'm 40% into the fourth book and still haven't seen him yet. So they're definitely playing with the timeline a lot, I guess to keep the actors working and the plotlines moving towards what they consider to be a satisfying build. I know the fourth book has a lot of Greyjoy family nonsense, so I'm guessing that's why they're keeping Theon's story at the forefront. I guess.

Personally, I think the farther they get from the Starks the less interesting it all is. There are big happenings with John Snow, Arya, and Sansa to come and we're spending time with the Bastard of Bolton. Way too much time. But hey, I'm not the showrunner.

Oh wow that sounds like it could be 1000 times more intense. I feel like reading the books now considering the spoilers I run into. Already found out who killed Joffrey :/

Yeah, the Bolton stuff does drag a bit and the same with Stanis.

If you like the show, just read the books.

GRRM did a great job with this last teleplay. The deviations from the books make for fun surprises. Fingers crossed for more Oberyn screentime, though.

Bran's storyline bores the shit out of me. I know it is going somewhere supposedly important but it isn't holding my interest at all.

(And that Oberyn guy is fucking hot)
