Having not read any of the books, but being obsessed with this series: I'm pretty sure they will introduce those characters, but possibly find a stronger way to bring them into the story line. George Martin has penned an episode, so I'm pretty sure he is in the room with the writers or at least reading the scripts of each episode before approving of them for production... I mean... It's not TV, It's HBO

He wrote the battle on blackwater bay episode. The Reeds were supposed to come in episodes ago. I'm hoping they just had to kill of some people from this season before they can afford new actors.

Only things wrong with last episode:
    1. Sansa admitting to Shae that she hates Joff. Although she had just been through an incredibly traumatic experience, and was probably still in shock, so I guess I can let it slide.
    2. Irri getting killed. It is known that that shit rhymes with weak.
Pretty sure Doreah's still alive tho, since we didn't see her dead and Dany had just told her to go bang some rich guys for intel. (Which is kinda funny cuz in the books Doreah died in the Red Waste and Irri is still alive, but whatever).

As far as the Tywin/Arya thing, in the book Tywin was at Harrenhal for quite some time while Arya was there, but she was never his cupbearer. Is it harder to justify her not naming him when she is around him all the time? Sure, but I think they've done a good job with it. The first name was really a test to see if Jaqen could actually deliver, not to mention that she had just seen the Tickler kill a bunch of innocent people, including her friend, almost. Whereas Tywin had saved her friend's life, and the rest of their lives, as well. The second name was an emergency (gloriously done, btw). Hopefully the third name will play out just like in the book, and it'll all make sense.

And yeah, it sucks that the Reeds are not in this season, but Dave & Dan have mentioned that this can no longer be a straight book-to-season adaptation, having to move things around, and that certain characters from Book 3 will appear this season and others from Book 2 will be pushed back to next season. So hopefully we'll see them (or at least 1 of them) next year. At least we know we're gettin Ramsay, aka "my bastard son at the Dreadfort."

Still can't decide who had the best facial expressions last week:

    Jaqen's exasperated face at Arya

or Cat's mom face at Robb

Does anyone else enjoy the dynamic between Tywin and Arya? Even if not in the book, this is giving us a great opportunity to see a side of Tywin that is admirable. Most of the Lannisters other than Tyrion, who himself was a bit prickish in the first few episodes, seemed to be harsh unlikable folk. Although he still retains his position of power in all scenes, the way he's treated Arya and how he carries some conversations with her make his history as a person more interesting and present that he has an actual heart, IMO. He's a very smart person too, and although I felt in previous episodes he was very suspicious of Arya, the meeting with Little Finger really showed he doesn't pay much mind to her other than his smart cupbearer girl.

I wonder where the assassination will put him though, continue to not pay mind or start questioning how a northerner girl was picked up in a dungeon in Kings Landing..

I think most fans are upset she's not named Asha.

Unfortunately, homey, that projection is accurate. The bright side is Asha doesn't give a fuck.

I highly doubt it. Killed off screen and charred beyond recognition? Not the boys we're looking for. Plus they have a Hodor.

I know it is going to happen.. But it seems hard to believe they will wrap up book 2 in all of season 2. I read that season 3 will adapt approximately the first half of A Storm of Swords. They could have easily done that with the 2nd book as well. I want the reeds.. Now.

Have the show creators addressed the problem of the child actors aging too much by the time they get around to the later books/seasons in a few years? The books that are out now only cover like 2 or 3 years right?

Well the next season has to start shooting soon enough, so they can hopefully not make it look too bad time wise.

You'd amazed at what MUAs can do. If the kids don't sprout up in height, it won't be too much of a challenge.

Joffrey grew a fucking foot in the span of a month's story. They could have at least made a small effort to do a couple camera tricks to at least soften it over a few episodes. I don't think they care.

Their bigger problem is that Onion News story you posted above. Seriously it takes many years to make old men look that grizzled.

My question is won't the show catch up to GRRM's writing pace before the books are even done?

They could slow down to at even half pace and still be interesting. The most frustrating thing about the show is how fast they jump around. The episodes feel 20 minutes long.

From what I have read it takes GRRM about 3 years to write a book. He started the 6th book last year so it should be done sometime next year.. hopefully. As I said earlier they are planning on doing half of book 3 for season 3. If this is all true that would give him 2 years per book to write the 6th & 7th book. Even if they did not do half a book per season he should have time to write the 7th book in time. I'm rambling. I am not even sure that makes sense, I have been awake for too long.

But what are the odds that the series wont even survive through the time it takes for the books to be finished? Then what?
