Yeah, book 3 was a behemoth. Book 4 was a slog though.

i liked a bunch of the segments in book 4 a lot... but it definitely suffered by leaving us hanging on half the plot...

i wonder if the TV show will merge 4 and 5 into two seasons that don't completely sever the story lines... my gut says they will.

How many people are worried George Martin will die before he finishes book 7? He's not in that great of condition and there's been a lot of time in between books...

The issue for me with book 4 was that I didn't really give all that much of a shit about the characters they focused on. I'm more of a Jon/Tyrion/Arya kinda guy. I didn't mean for my comment to sound like I didn't enjoy the book, because I definitely did. It was just more of a challenge to get through than the previous books.

I'm in this camp, too, and it was hard for me to get into (and keep straight) all the new Dornish characters he introduced. I thought the Daenerys developments were pretty cool, though, and added to what I think is one of the most effective character arcs (along with Jon's).

Daenerys does not appear in the 4th book, did you perhaps mean Cersei?

A Dance With Dragons will be published July 12 in the US & UK. You'll get your Dany fix then.

"Do you pray to the gods?"

    "The old and the new."

"There is only one god, and his name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to Death. Not today."

Whoops. I was conflating the third and fourth. Which means I disliked the fourth even more than I remembered.

    Dany should counsel abused spouses.

Assuming we get that far, A Feast For Crows (Book 4) and A Dance With Dragons (Book 5) will be combined for the show. So fear not that you'll have to endure a Dany/Jon/Tyrion-less season.

Maester Luwin: Why did you come here?

Osha: Didn't mean to come here. Meant to get much further south than this. As south as south goes. Before the Long Night comes.

Maester Luwin: Why? What are you afraid of?

Osha: There's things that sleep in the day. And hunt at night...

    Maester Luwin: Owls and shadowcats...

Osha: I'm not talkin about owls and shadowcats...

Maester Luwin: Hmm. These things you speak of. They've been gone for thousands of years.

Osha: They wasn't gone, old man. They was sleeping. And they ain't sleepin no more.

This show just gets better and better. Classic HBO cliffhanger ending in Episode 7.

I do hope HBO doesn't pull a Carnivale, Deadwood, Rome, etc and pull the plug on this show too early.

This show could benefit with a little less sex and nudity. I understand how sex is a key factor in certain story lines, but it just seems like a bit too much and distracts from the good parts of the show.

I really liked the courtyard scene with Cersei and Ned.

"...and that night he crawled on top of me stinking of wine and did what he did - what little he could do...and whispered in my ear, 'Leanna'. Your sister was a corpse and I was a living girl and he loved her more than me."

While I knew that this week's episode was merely a set up for the final 2, I have to say I was a bit disappointed. It was good, just nowhere near as good as the last few weeks in terms of suspense. There were some incredible scenes though, if a bit packed in.

Khal Drogo's epic badassery made for this episode's best moment I think.

this show, by far, is one of the best HBO series. i love how it's not like anything else you see on television these days.

Book 4 has redeeming qualities. I won't go into them too much because I feel like even giving away the names of narrators in this series is too much of a spoiler.

The one thing I will say is that I hate Cersei. She is such a bitch, and that's a good thing. I think it speaks for the book when one (or more.. thinking of a few other narrators in book 4) characters elicit an emotional response like that, even if it's a negative one.

Anyone read any of the sample chapters that were posted on Martin's website? Full of awesome.

Ugh, entertainment so good it becomes an addiction. 2 Episodes left have me cringing and wanting to just spoil my mind by reading all the books. I had to stop reading due to not wanting to kill the first season for me. I really hope this takes off and doesn't get too loopy like True Blood did

    EDIT:
Or Dexter with Julia Stiles and a terribly predictable time line. (Jimmy Smits season has 500 points on Stiles)

I love the way every episode leaves me wanting more. Sunday nights are genuine events for me. I havent had a TV show be a part of my life like this in a long time.

Sansa replying "he will" at the end of episode 8 gave me goosebumps.

at the start, i used to think Jason Momoa was too much of a pretty-boy to fit the role of Khal Drogo. from the "crowning" of Viserys on, Momoa has very much grown on me.
