First time, a few questions. [building a fort, arrival time]

Okay, i'm from Phoenix Arizona, my friend lives in LA (i'm flying out), and I'm an 18 year old senior in high school, and i've missed alot (they hate when you do that), so i'm trying to find a balance between missing as little school as possible and seeing as much coachella as possible.

Getting there
Should I fly out thursday afternoon, or friday morning, or after I get out of school friday at noon? If I leave friday, my flight would be at like... 1:30, meaning i'd get into LAX at roughly 2:30. When do the shows start, when do I want to be there by, etc.

leaving
Sunday night- I read that everything shuts down at midnight sunday. Should I take a red eye flight monday morning, ie: 1:00 or 2:00am? Or Is it pretty much miserable to leave coachella at midnight and expect to go to the airport, etc.

Building a Fort- Car Camping
Okay, we have our car camping spot, and a fairly large SUV. I figure the SUV will take about 1/3 of the space up, leaving us a 10'x20' space to get our camp on. Would it be 'against the rules' to bring some 2x4's and plywood and build a (very basic, easily torn down and taken away) 5 to 8 foot high platform with a ladder that we could put our tent on and just have a good time?

I think that pretty much covers what i need to ask, thanks for any help guys!

From LA to Indio is 2 hours. Probably closer to 3 with traffic. Do you want to be getting to the festival around 5:30 or 6:00 on Friday? I say fly out Thursday afternoon or evening. Scrambling will take away from the awesome weekend.

my friend lives about 10 minutes away from LAX and the car that I would have to drive out guzzles 13 Miles Per Gallon, so its not a cheap drive, and I have a south west gift card <3

It depends on if it's paramount that you get to school on Monday. You would probably need to leave around 10:30 (possibly earlier) to make a 1 a.m. flight out of LAX, so you'd miss the headliner/last Sahara act/etc.

My advice would be to get ahead on as much schoolwork as possible before Coachella and take off from school on both Friday and Monday.

Keep in mind that they don't allow metal hammers inside the campgrounds *assuming they are keeping most of the rules from last year* You would have to build it with rubber mallets.
