Retire at 50...(AKA The finance thread)

What is everyone doing to retire at a reasonable age?

I max out my 401k, and max out a roth IRA. I also invest in stocks with any money i have left.

Is everyone investing in blue chips stocks? mutual funds? Google? Biotech companies?

Edit: I max out my 401k and have a good portion of money invested in mutual funds, CD's, large caps, and then I have some ETF's and other up and coming companies that I personally think are winners over the next decade or so. My ten year plan when I graduated in 2005 was to get out by 2015 and its still pretty much on track. Still many more decisions to make and many paths to take though.

I really need to start saving money. I have 401Ks floating around in the bankosphere somewhere, from past jobs but I haven't even started it here even though my firm gives 3% (immediately, don't have to be vested) even if you don't contribute a cent. I just got to activate it. I just spend every penny I get is the thing, at this point.

it's exactly why i decided against film school and went to business school instead. Low risk and high income is the way to go. This allows me to attend concerts w/o breaking the bank, and fund my indie movies on the side.
