Tom Morello and Boots Riley of The Coup!!!!!!!!!
I didnt get to see them at Voodoo so I can now
Nice! I'll probably check them out if there are no conflicts.
all i thought when i saw them was oh great this is more of tom morello jacking off.
"It's in the K" - Martha Stewart
Since the show list is very minimal...
August 29 // Chemical Brothers w/ Chromeo & Yacht @ Hollywood Bowl
September 26 // Vampire Weekend w/ Beach House & the Very Best @ Hollywood Bowl
October 5 // ARCADE FIRE @ Henry Miller Library
October 13 // Corin Tucker Band @ The El Rey
(someone should give me Sufjan Stevens tickets, aint got none of those)
Saw them open for Nine Inch Nails and Janes Addicition last summer, not bad. They do a pretty good cover of "Kick Out The Jams" occasionally.
I remember watching Tom in 07' as the Nightwatchman. He got the crowd going pretty well (even though most were RATM fans that were already super hyped). I'm definitely going to try to catch this set.
Sucks that they had to be added friday. There is a lot of low-mid tier acts I wanna catch that day.
They were mediocre at best when I saw them.
Mediocre is a step up from some of the undercard acts. If this gives us something better than Iglu & Hartley to watch, we should all worship at the alter of Tom Morello.
Oh Jeesus. I just looked at the poster - SSSC is the act listed right before Iglu & Hartley. The Gods smile on us.
I enjoyed 'em at the Santa Barbara Bowl, but I was in the pit, maybe 3-4 people back... so we might have had more fun than the people in the seats. This was a pretty fun "Paper Planes" cover.

I saw them on the NINJA tour and i was alittle dissapointed. It took Trent Reznor to join them on stage for their last song to make them sound half way decent. It's a shame because I like the Coop and Tom Morello (well not Audioslave) and I was hoping they would sound alittle more dynamic but they were very bland. I have no problem missing their set.
5/11/12 - Cloud Cult - El Rey // 5/23/13 & 5/24/13 - Boris - Echoplex // 6/7/13 + 6/8/13 - Jubilee Music Festival
6/9/13 - Devo/GZA - Natural History Museum // 6/11/13 - Bjork - Hollywood Bowl // 6/21/13-6/23/13 - Solid Sound Music Festival - MASS MOCA

The sooner these clowns disband, the better for those us who like music. They are painfully dull, and woefully cliche.
Morello reallyhas become a parody of himself, Carl Restivo is a joke, and the material is ideal if you suffer from insomnia.
they replaced Grace Jones?
what a joke!
I also saw them on the NINJA tour and I actually thought they were decent.
another act to avoid this year
Oh, goddamnit. Generic filler-fest bands like this are why I usually hate day long concerts in the sun. They just turn it into a fucking ordeal to put up with. At least it's one less conflict to worry about.
i saw em at outside lands last year, blew my ass away.
It would be nice if Morrello could write a riff outside of the pentatonic blues scale. He can obviously play guitar, why is he so content with playing the same tired riffs over and over and over and over??
Well I love Rage... and the Coup is pretty interesting. I like the video in OP's post. I guess I will check these guys out.
Because they entertain people. The blues are proven. Power chords are proven. If you want something fantastic and different, you're on the outside looking in.
Besides, from the perspective of originality, his playing style onstage is inventive enough that it makes the music more fun. Show me any RATM crowd, and I'll show you a crowd going insane with Tom's playing providing the licks.
It's like Rage except the guy who's rapping is actually black.
DEATH FROM A-FUCKING-BOVE1979
after you get over the initial, "Oh, sounds like Rage," that particular performance becomes completely awful. Good Lord, and yeah Morello seems like kind of a douche. Yes, Tom, we know it is you playing the guitar, and wow that's cool that you can do that with the guitar cable.. GOOD JOB! You get a golden star.
see you in '12
Just discovered that they were Tom and Boots this morning. Interesting collab, I plan to try to check them out if there are no conflicts.
Jeff Goldblum for main stage 2012.
2011 Perfectchella.
they are a good band to see live and just rock out.... if no conflicts ill check them out
Plan on seeing them also if no conflicts!
