You should know by now zimmy.

Our show was fucking amazing. Despite horrendous parking issues and having to wait in line an extra hour waiting for Ashlyn and Lilia to find parking after dropping Donald and I off at the line (which proved to be futile, there was literally no line after they finally found local parking), we managed to get in all together and mostly stick together and have a great time the entire evening. We arrived a bit late and were thusly only able to see three acts--but they were all amazing. My two main draws were Bassnectar and NASA but I skipped NASA for Beats Antique and additionally caught Stanton Warriors for the closer.

Beats Antique KILLED IT. Those bellydancers are the three sexiest women I have ever seen in my life. Their syncopated dancing and belly-wobble action sold me instantly. The music was also ace, special note to their new Haiti song, Lynx for coming onstage to sing for them, and the two closing songs: some really trippy downtempo and love songs. Just beautiful.

BASSNECTAR DESTROYED MY FACE. After missing him three consecutive times (Street Scene, *********, Sea of Dreams), all my wildest dreams finally came true. The sound was ACE! I knew to expect big things in the bass frequency department from this man, but I was naive to how beautifully layered all of his music is. It's clean on so many different levels, and there is so much going on all the time. Not only were his own songs fucking EPIC, he also somehow managed to drop hits from deadmau5 and The Smashing Pimpkins. Everyone was in the palm of his hand, and (you know if you were there) "No excuses, nobody's too cool to dance. On the count of three everyone in this room goes BUCK-FUCKING-WILD!!". Absolutely flawless display of BASS MUSIC.

Stanton Warriors was also a flawless set. Though I disagree with them having the closing slot, they were one of the few acts that I think can legitimately follow Bassnectar and not have to win the crowd's attention to stay. We stuck around til about the last half hour and bounced.

I know music is priority and all, but did you get a chance to check out the mural done by The Mac & Retna? The Mac is one of the mose talented people to ever touch a spray paint can, and when him and Retna get together for something it usually is nothing short of amazing.

Due to the joke of a parking situation going on, the large amounts of motorcycle cops EVERYWHERE, sobriety check point, and traffic I didn't make it in till close to midnight. By that time it was nonstop music I needed to catch so I was only able to see a portion of the art. I was so bummed at the after party when Alex asked if we made it to all the artwork on the second floor.

No complaints about the music, art or crowd.

-The Lucent Dossier Experience (circus-like performance) was enjoyable.

-We ran back and forth between NASA and Beats Antique. Both worthwhile.

-Bassnectar mostly killed it. Sorry folks, I wasn't digging the Smashing Pumpkins. It felt a lot like when Z-Trip drops "Smells Like Teen Spirit"... out of place and out of touch.

-Stanton Warriors were quality, but we were just too plumb tuckered out to stay past 3:15ish. We'd gone to Avalon on Friday for The Crystal Method so we weren't at full strength.

My moans and groans for the night... the bar closed at midnight and water was $4. After partying with some 'fun guys' on Friday we were looking forward to some drinks and dancing on Saturday. The lines for booze were huge when we arrived (around 11) so we didn't have a chance to get gouged at the bar. Sobering up over the course of the night didn't help our mood or energy level.

Yes. There are parking garages all over the fucking place and they were all either closed or people were being turned away.

I was not there, kind of wish i was, but i decided to just kick it at home and save energy for Deep on sunday, especially since i still had to be to work at 6:30 am monday morning. Just posted some of The Mac & Retna's art just incase someone did happen to see and take flicks they would know what i was talking about, all the flicks i posted are from different locations around LA.
