You should check out their PIG Radio mix. It's 2007 so...pre-Aoki.

Because they would be terrible, I liked them for a while and it eventually started to just be annoying. People would just turn it off after about 45 minutes or so.

I've never really listened to Swedish House Mafia but their live set from Creamfields that BBC1 has available for the week is pretty fucking bad ass.

Danny Byrd's mix is FIRE. Pendulum's 2010 mix, while not mixed so... "traditionally," has alot of really fresh sounds and kept my interest. It also made me appreciate some of the tracks on their new album which I thought I hated. So there's that...

My favorite EM this year is still James Zabiela's. He's such a technician and the amount of creativity put into his set really shines through. Give that man 2+ hours and he definitely tells a story.

Ive come to the conclusion that SHM are the single rare anomaly where popular and talent successfully mix. They play big cheese, mix it flawlessly, and have the personality to pull the whole "we are rockstars" off... making for one epic party that everyone can enjoy.

Oh and their set @ EDC this year was INSANE

I know how much this board loves listing but I'd be interested in seeing everyone's top 5-10 EM's. Just so I can narrow down where to start, feel free to list away as a favor to me.

I don't keep up with essential mix that much but I do recommend:
    Justice (2007)
    Carl Cox (2007)
    Booka Shade (2007)
    Boys Noize (2009)

Top 5 (after #1 they are in specific order)

    1- Adam Freeland ('08)
    2 - Silicon Soul ('05)
    3 - Rennie Pilgrim ('05)
    4 - High Contrast ('07)
    5 - Laidback Luke ('08)

But there are a lot I have not heard, but all of those are great.

Edit: I would also like to add The Twelves, I really enjoy theirs.

I think "a lot I have not heard" is kind of given.

My taste in music is also a lot different than most people, I have heard quite a few but new ones are always coming out and I haven't had a chance to check out many of the newer ones. Give 5 better ones for me to check out since you obviously think my list isn't good enough.

Not big on progressive, I can dig some but not all of it. From the sets I have downloaded I have liked what Digweed puts together more than Sasha but am not crazy about either. Maybe I will have to give Sasha's essential mix a try.

I've only heard part of the Sasha EM once, and I turned it down.

(sorry Andrew, that was me at HARD Summer '09.)

I don't see an opitimistic Raiders quote anywhere on your list, wtf?!

oh, that wasn't a stab at your list. I pass no judgement there. I meant essential mixes have been happening for, what, 20 years? it's like saying there's a lot of books in the library you haven't read.

That Boys Noize EM has some of the shittiest mixing ever. Kudos to him for trying to spin an all vinyl set, but mixing wax clearly separates the men from the boys (no pun intended).
