Thread: Any suggestions on school/coachella situation

Default Any suggestions on school/coachella situation

I was told yesterday that I will have about 15 hours of reading/homework the weekend of Coachella. The trip from Vegas is about 4 hours each way. I could study, and do homework in the campgrounds and come in a little late each day. Or just play it safe and not go? I'm thinking I should not go, but other students say I'll be fine. It kills me not to go, though. Any suggestions from anyone that has tried to study in the campgrounds would be greatly appreciated. I think if I get started early each day (i.e. before people start partying) I might be ok. Thanks.

Ask for the work in advance. Its what I always do. No way in hell are you going to actually get some work done at Coachella.

Have sex with your teacher. That doesn't seem like it could fail.

Seriously though. Find out what you need to read and start early. You'll be fine!

Thanks for the helpful responses. I'm feeling good about going after reading them. I really want to see Pavement and Faith No More.

school is meaningless. put it out of your mind!!! coachella used to be the week before my finals, so i always ended up getting fucked over. this year my plan is to not care.

i doubt that skipping out on wine tasting will really effect my grade though...

it is possible to do homework during coachella time, but the only way is in a hotel room or at a house on thursday. doing homework at the campgrounds? impossible.

i still have to talk to my professors about this. getting the time off of work was an interesting enough challenge, i'm hoping i don't run into any problems with school.

ya you wont get any done in the campgrounds. I always bring my backpack but never use it. I always just get started with my work early in the week and just spend all week getting ahead so i have everthing i need done for class done before thursday. It also helps that I am going to try to get only Tues Thurs classes for my spring quarter. That would really make things easier.

My dead grandmother is going to die again around that time. In Kansas, where she never lived.

I'm always ahead in my classes, but when Coachella comes around, I ask if there are any tests/quizzes that are scheduled during those dates and then ask to take them ahead of time. Lucky for me, my web design professor knows about and has been to Coachella, and likes that I go because I always come back with awesome pictures that I put into my websites.

Learn to speed read. Or you can always come sit at my camp spot each morning and I will yell at you to keep studying until you finish your assignments.

Take the hit to your grades. Grad school is probably not in your future anyways.

My first year I brought some schoolwork to the campgrounds with me 'cause I had midterms all the next week but studying there is impossible. If you can't handle the weekend off from assignments and studying and you can't accept the possibility of a lower grade, don't go.

I'm not sure why Coachella equates with a lifetime of service in fast food. One weekend should not really make or break your grades.

not to mention taking one weekend off isnt gonna even ruin your grade for the semester/quarter especially if you do the work earlier in the week

I would give you a proper answer but these burgers aren't going to make themselves square, you know.

For some reason I can't get Friday off, so I'm on the wishlist for it at work. Worse case scenario, I call out sick. (yeah, I know, "good story").

A non-existent family member, preferably. You're just asking for it otherwise.

not only do I think it's possible to get your homework done in the campgound (if you REALLY want to), but I'd bet five bucks that if you walked around and offered to trade someone a couple beers or a joint for some help, you'd get your shit done faster. coachella is like a psychedelic drug trip- it's whatever you make it. if your coachella is gonna be meeting some genius in whatever discipline you're in in the campground and him helping you with your homework and you two becoming BFFs, then by gum I'll bet it's gonna happen. it's just that magical of a place.

so long story short- just fuckin' come already. come hell or high water you won't regret it.

School is the last thing that should keep you from going to coachella. That is why it's on Friday-Saturday-Sunday.

I talked to students that are several semesters ahead of me, and some say to go, some say don't. I'm just going to bust ass that week and try to get everything taken care of. This is my 4th Coachella and I couldn't imagine trying to read about Microbiology in the campgrounds with the impromptu water cooler jug drum circles going on like after the Cure set last year. I watched security run after the people with the jugs, then snatch them out of their hands.

i've said this before in another thread, but school made me miss coachella in '04 and '06. those remain the 2 dumbest decisions of my life. my grades would have been just fine had i gone. if you don't go to coachella, let the reasons be finiancial or dissatisfaction with the lineup, not school.

memories last forever and you will remember coachella, not studying for a thesis.
