[QUOTE=Monklish;1548006]Fucking here. Here's how you do it.
Now then, having GnR sub under Nirvana is fucking ridiculous. GnR were, like it or not, the absolute biggest band in the rock world the years they were active.
My thoughts on that were GnR were more on the way out by that time. Yes, still a big draw, but Nirvana were on top. Notice no STP or PJ though to compete. Can't over do it with the grunge. As for the wasteland it was more about a dark gloomy feel than a wasteland - after all it was all about Seattle at that time. Maybe the yellow was not the best choice but overall the design was more inspired by the black and white imagery of the CD's of the headliners that year (Automatic for the People and the Wedding Album, plus the yellow of In Utero). Maybe a little too subliminal.
Fuck GnR, and again, it's "Eric B. and Rakim" not "Erik B. and Rakim". TYPO TYPO TYPO
It looks like a poisoned swamp. So you think GnR were on their way out two years after they had the biggest album release ever and a year after being on the biggest tour of the year? C'mon, dude. Either leave them off or put them as headliners, there is no other option.
For those having trouble with uploading....just goto "tinypic.com", and use their upload feature....click browse, select the poster you made (in jpg, png, or gif format), and click upload. It'll then goto a confirmation page, where you can click to view your picture and get the BBcode to copy and paste into here, usually something like [ IMG ] http://tinypic.com/whateverblah [ /IMG ].
cheers menkimati ,i want to extend the crossboard section of your post when using photoshop ? to enable the perfect poster size ,im pretty new on photoshop an ive only been able to come up with this
FTR - I actually do not work at a graphic design firm. When I say firm I meant Communications/advertising. Not design firm in the Landor/Interbrand sense of the word.
also FTR... Monklish has some ok picks on his poster, nothing groundbreaking mind you, but appropriate for the year, I guess. I mean we both have stuff like Marvin Gaye, Elton, Carole King, Alice Cooper... etc.
I am super curious to see what everyone thinks of my 1990 poster that is in the works. I have spent the most time on it as far as getting the bill just right, and I think it's full of interesting, yet realistic surprises. Just picking out another 5-10 bands for the bottom of the bill as I am trying to match the actual total number of bands that appear at Coachella. This is something I think most of the already submitted posters can benefit from... it is more work though.

I don't see your point. 2 years after the biggest release? How about Nirvana 1year after the biggest release of the decade? Yes GnR were big but by that time band members were leaving and metal was on its way out THANKS TO Nirvana. 1991 yes, 1993 2nd to top. We're not gonna agree on this one. Sorry.
<insert shameless plug here about imgur.com being way more efficient than any other image hosting site>
Still no clue on what you're talking about....but a quick guide (based on what i use in photoshop), do this:
1. Open Photoshop
2. Goto File
3. Select New
4. Make your image (in the box that pops up) 600px wide, 800px tall with transparent background
5. Open and copy the landscape image into your newly opened blank image, and place it at the bottom of the image in it's own layer
6. Add another layer, and drag it so it's beneath the landscape layer, this will be your background color layer....make it any color or gradient you want.
7. Add another layer, this time make it on top of your landscape layer, and place the Coachella header image in it, and place it at the top of the poster, shrinking the size some too.
8. You should have 3 layers now...1. Header layer, 2. landscape layer, 3. background color layer.
9. Now make new layers above the background color for your band text etc
10. Goto file > save for web (or save as), and choose jpg or gif or png, and there you have it.
thank you from the photoshop retards
That was nice of you Menik.
By the way, my issue was a software one, I was working off of different version of different programs and when I transfered the original header it got screwy. The problem of too many machines.
Oh one mo thing... Now that I know this, I think I will update my Nintendo graphics I did for my 87, working on that as well right now.

If I were you, I would make the mountains/landscape on your "nintendo" poster look all blocky/8-bit as well. I think that would look really cool.
I would probably put G n R over Nirvana as well, or move them to a different day. Keep in mind, as legendary as it now is, Nirvana were still mid-day festival performers at festivals like Reading in 1992.
I think NIN could headline now. The fact they did in 05 (and the fact they ceased live operations) is the only reasons they wouldn't. The last tour was pretty spectacular.
I mean if Muse can do it...

NIN would absolutely headline now, you fucking dolt. GnR has outsold Nirvana by a ridiculous margin. GnR has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. Nirvana is nowhere close to that. The fact that they put out two of the biggest albums of the decade simultaneously in 1991--becoming the only artists ever to occupy both the no. 1 and no. 2 spots on Billboard in the albums' first week--which combined outsold Nevermind handily equals way, way, way too fucking big to not headline. It's just a ridiculous argument. They'd just come off of one of the biggest tours of the decade. To think that the passage of one year would knock them down to subheadliners is fucking ridiculous.
Nirvana have some rabid fans. That's for sure. But every band has its champions. I think those who really lived through the G-N-R heyday, starting in hte late 80's have a very different view of the Nirvana thing anyways. I'd say no matter how you slice it until the line up started to change (Slash leaving) G-N-R will always be bigger than Nirvana in the general public eye. Do I personally like them better, no, probably not, but I do like a good dose of Mr Brownstone turned up very loud from time to time.
Some people prefer what Nirvana did to the industry and music all together and hold that higher than just album sales. Hell, if it were up to me THE TINDERSTICKS would headline Coachella every year... hey, I should make a poster?
Kidding. (about making the poster part)

Nirvana above GnR has my full support.
It's not even an argument of who's bigger. It's the point that no band that sold 700,000 copies each of a double album split into two during the first week of release in 1991 is going to subheadline in 1993. It's just silly. GnR were one of the biggest bands in the world.
