GV often gets the "the" wrong on the poster - I'm guessing they don't really care, and neither do some of the bands (e.g. Arcade Fire)

Actually I haven't uploaded them yet. One I'm still working on the lineup and the other just the graphics. I feel hopeful though.

I think it's a little top-heavy (as in the whole top half), but maybe I'm overestimating some of these bands.

Keep in mind I was 1 in 1987, so other people might know better about lineup placing that year. I do think you're just gonna have to let some of those midcard acts go - like INXS, Midnight Oil and Eurythmics - I would think they were too big to be that low in 87.

All sorts of wrong on that poster. I think there are several corrections to be made on that line-up. I will offer up one major glaring mistake.

    For example.

Pixies are waaaaay too high on the 87 poster. Trust me they would be at the very bottom if anything. In 1987 they only had released their debut EP, it was released after your festival, and that record (Come on Pilgrim) didn't sell very well at all.

Every other single band listed on Sunday were bigger than them.

This is a prime example of those who didn't grow up during that time. Sure when the Pixies re-formed in 2004, it was major deal, but mostly because of all the Johnny-come-lately's. I'm sure some of the same people losing their minds in 2004 at their reunion shows were some of the same people booing them off stage on the U2 tour in 1993. I saw the Pixies about 4 times betwenn 1990 and 1992, the biggest room they filled (on their own) was about 1500. Honestly they never got bigger than this, not until after they broke up.

someone needs to do some more (lots more) research.

They were obviously a lot bigger in the UK then. They sold out Crystal Palace Bowl in 91 (supported by Ride), which has a capacity of 18,000.

The idea of U2 over Duran Duran is a little silly to me.

Duran Duran had been a mega-super-star-sellout stadium band during the middle of the decade, an MTV supergroup. U2 didn't become gigantic huge megastars till Bono started wearing sunglasses - early 90's. What was the album? Had "The Fly" and "Mysterious Ways"? They were a popular band prior (sold a lot of records), but I think they'd be (at worst) even with Duran Duran, and Depeche Mode would definitely be below Duran Duran. Without quesiton.

So my problem isn't so much U2, it's Duran Duran at #3 that day. You're implying they'd play a sunset hour-long slot or so.... OR they'd be against Depeche Mode, which is also silly.

I'd just remove Duran Duran altogether, too many problems otherwise. And man, you gotta love the rewritten history re: The Pixies and Sonic Youth. According to our posters, they should've been stars in the late 80s... meanwhile, SY has never cranked out a Gold record, and the Pixies didn't have one till 1995 (Thanks largely to Kurt Cobain's professions of love for the band... where was he in 1987? Tenth Grade?).

Yeah, my Pixies take was purely a American, namely Ohio, one.

but there's tons more wrong with that poster than just the Pixies billing, pretty much everything really.

So I decided to animate one of my posters, spent 5 hours on it, rendered it and somehow lost the file. Had to go back to an earlier saved version (this one). Not how I wanted it to animate, but wasn't about to start over.

How was it a waste of time? I had fun. So what if I didn't get the results I wanted. That's life. I don't care if you don't like the order. Just watch it and enjoy or don't. No need to give any comments since it isn't for the actual competition.

Not sure how it would go over in a poster, but as a video, I thought it was pretty cool. Atleast you've got a good sized lineup for it. (Lineup and placement on the poster are making me fussy with mine.) How long did it take you to get from the poster idea to a video?

This is the stupidest post in history. U2 sold out Sun Devil Stadium in 1987 (or 88-I was in Jr. High so I don't remember the exact year, but it was a big goddamn deal). Depeche Mode sold out the Rose Bowl in 88 after MFTM came out. Duran Duran was never able to do anything on that level here in the states. They were the Backstreet Boys of the new wave movement.

    I weep for the future.

This was my first poster (I've made 7 now, so they get easier). I didn't think I could come up with another and not end up with a lot of the same bands or with somethng too close to another person's poster, so I just took the poster and put the stuff into motion. Just wanted to keep doing something since this whole experience was so much fun. It is literally straight from my poster design. Time to design the poster and comprise the line-up was about 4 hours or so. I have an extensive library of music and books to use so that helps a lot, plus I teach graphic design.
