Silence, if I was you I would be careful to put the year clearly in the upper right hand corner of both your more arty entries. Wouldn't want to get jobbed on a technicality.

That's weird, it looks fine on my computer, but I'll fix it if I have time...I did think about it.

What I can see is off-putting, because you have stuff like Metallica 3rd billing after only 2 albums...

    Try again.
And Them Crooked Vultures has 1 album, Thom Yorke has one album, Yeah Yeah Yeahs had 3rd billing before their second album came out I believe (although they did play stuff off it)...I'm not seeing a lot of precedent for your claims. And the problem with most of the posters is stacking the top too much, not too little.

I'll submit another poster just in case I'm way off, sorry to clutter the boards but blame this guy.

What he or she said. Beautiful background, but way too dark to read. As far as the lineup, Metallica may be a second line stretch in '85, but they were playing to much larger crowds than REM and Ramones at the time.

I think the point is more that no one gave a flying fuck who Metallica was in 1985. And they didn't.

    Last minute 97 poster!

Much thanks to Coachella for hosting such a cool contest.

It was fun to discover old bands while researching and browsing all the great posters.

    May the best posters win!

Here's my entry for 1974. The Grateful Dead and Black Sabbath were both at the top of their game and I really liked the idea of a good vs. evil in the headliners. I thought that theme lent itself to a black and white poster design. Hope everyone enjoys it!

I hand painted this Coachella Poster in honor of 1984, using watercolors. I really enjoyed this project & hope everyone else will like it too!

^^ great job, most wouldn't even want to tell you after so many people appear to be making the mistake, but it won't be considered without the year in the upper right. also you can't read the year at all.

You can't put Vultures and Yorke in that league, as they are members of other bands that could most likely headline the festival.

this last-minute 1997 business is bullshit, i keep having to switch my top bands to keep up.

The lineup is more important than the designs, and it took me longer to research that than all of the photoshop work combined.

I did my best to make a well-rounded lineup for '88... 114 bands (on the first two)... making sure to include enough new wave, post punk, rock, metal, electronica/techno/house, and some older, classic acts.

    This was fun! Cheers!

The traditional one looks fuckin great! 2nd one, no bueno. If you ever print copies of the signed one, I'd hang it in my fake Coachella poster room.

Fair enough, but that still doesn't explain Yeah Yeah Yeahs or My Morning Jacket subbing when they did. Or several other bands...

But I get the point, I'll post an alternate.

Yes it does. Because Yeah Yeah Yeahs and My Morning Jacket had already had a great deal of success when they subbed. Metallica didn't have a gold record until 86.

No explaining needed. Metallica wasn't anybody in 85. Those bands you mention have a larger following, sell more records, etc... Metallica didn't have an album to sell over 100,000 copies until Master of Puppets... and that was 1986.

More importantly you have Metallica over Elvis Costello. Might wanna read up on that.

But what do I know? Not very much, you should ignore my advice.

Except maybe for the 60,000 at Day on the Green in '85, where they were 4th.

Jesus now i don't know what to do. I did my research like a week ago for 85 and I don't even remember my justifications. I'll go with 3rd line.

    Points for creativity.

But I dont want to have to pull out binoculars to see anything beneath the 4th line.

I don't see how that's the issue. Nobody knew who the fuck REM was either.

AFTER, repeat, AFTER this contest ends... as in not for another 3 hours, we all should pick our top 3 posters overall. That could be fun.

I know and he had them & Ramones as his other third headliners. Just sayin at least Metallica had somewhat of a following, especially in California.
