Loving this poster: finally Fad Gadget gets his due! A few quibbles: Asia was huge, and would be way higher than Psychic TV; Camouflage didn't actually release anything until like 1987; Power Station and Arcadia were both Duran Duran side-projects, so not sure if it the line-up is feasible--and both would be listed much higher; love you've got Julio Iglesias, who was being promoted hard that year; and Menudo would have never appeared at any Coachella. Nice work!

Here is my entry for a 1970 Coachella poster. It is different the rst of these I guess. I made it in the style of the times, and used less bands to fit how festivals were booked at the time.
I hope everyone enjoys it. I am working on a 1980 one maybe tonight.

For what it's worth, I like this one very much.

Kudos for including both those sky spotlights we've all grown to love, and a disco ball as a moon. Perfect for 78. Lineup is good too. There could have been an all-star jam during the Bee Gees slot that could've including Jeff Lynne (ELO), and Harrison.

I wish the type used for the bands in the 1970 one, wasn't so bland. The type they used is a very modern computer type, & the masthead looks hand drawn, so there is a little disconnect. Also there is no hierarchy in the lineup... but that's me being picky i guess.

The rest of the poster is really good though.

The 1987 cassette one is a good idea, but it is much more a FLYER, and not so much a POSTER.

Bob Marley was not well known in the US in 1978. I mean he wasn't unheard of but he didn't have nearly the stature (or sales) that he does today. He is billed too high.

Ramones are billed way to high. Unless you think GV would base billing on some prescient vision of future stature, rather than how many people gave a shit at the time.

The Carpenters probably had more record sales than anyone else on your Sunday lineup. Too low.

Joy Division in 1978? no. They didn't even start recording their first album until 1979. that's a research fail.

bob marley headline the sb bowl in 79. You gotta have a good following to play, granted it only seats a little over 4000 people but when you factor in the sizeof the city and the fact that when people usually play the bowl they will have an arena show in LA. And you gotta be somebody to get Santa Barbarans our of their house.

Yeah I'm fine with that Bob Marley placement as well. He was selling out 2-5000 seat venues in 1978/1979. Don't really care for him as a sub, but that's my tastes only.

Computer-based fonts were not perfect for that time-period. I have a good collection of posters (actual physical posters) from that era... 99% have HAND DRAWN or hand-set typography.

Again it was more about the great header matching the (body) font style.

It's still a good entry.

Ramones billing seems ok to me, their discography to that point: Ramones (1976), Leave Home (1977), Rocket to Russia (1977), Road to Ruin (1978)... plus TONS of touring in 77/78. They are only on the 4th line that day, so that's seems right on to me.

Joy Division had a single in 1977, & an EP out in early 1978. Tony Wilson was already their manager in 1978. and they prolly did more live shows than anyone that year, so, I'm fine with them on that lineup as well. It's not like they have them headlining. It would be very in the vibe of Coachella to get a band like JD there in 78. For example... DELPHIC who are playing this year, just released an album this past month, and have only been around a year or so... plus none of their releases are available here in the states.

You're right - the Carpenters could be moved up, but i don't think it's a huge deal.

I think Harrison would be fine being second bill. Lennon /McCartney, prolly not.

the Rush/Primus tour of the early nineties was one of the largest grossing of the decade. shocking that nobody has really represented either band on these early 90's posters.
